ive just picked up the DE codex today and ive been blown away by what ive been reading in the book and on the forum (we dont need an update ). so yeh, i was after some tips, like how do you equip raiders, archon vs drachon, that kinda stuff. also how youve found 5th ed.
thanks a heap in advance

I've not been doing DE that long myself but one thing I've found (after a lot of experimenting with torture amps, slave snares, screaming jets ect) is that less is more when it comes to equipping raiders. The horrorfex can be cool for pinning units but nothing else is generally worth the points in my experience.
The HQ choice is pretty much a matter of personal preference. I just have a haemy at 500pts, a solo archon at 1000pts and either a solo archon or a dracon with incubi or grots and haemy at 1500pts. Not played anything bigger than that yet and, like I say, people all seem to have their own preferences. One setup I would definitely recommend either to lead a small force or as a second HQ for a larger one, is a haemy with destructor on a reaver. This has worked wonders for me every time I've used it, zooming around flaming people with the destructor then nipping behind cover with his extra move in the assault phase. He's a real nuisense and opponents often get hung up on taking out what's basically a cheap model, letting your army's real muscle progress unhindered. You can stick him with some wych reavers for protection when you like, breaking off whenever.
Hope that's been of some help dude

I'm a new player to DE myself, and I'm curious what people's thoughts on Reavers are. I'm coming from a regular Eldar background where jetbikes are overpriced and not so great, but how do you guys like/use reavers? With blasters or a haemy with a destructor they seem like they could be very potent for hit and run sort of tactics.
Indeed Deris. Like I say I love the haemy on reaver, really lets you get the most out of the destructor. A reaver squad with 2 blasters can be a real pain for tanks and heavily armoured troops, add a succubus with power weapon or punisher and t.helm and you've got the option to mop up stragglers/weak units in CC too.
Reavers are expensive and fragile but my experience of them is that they can definitely be worth the points as long as you pick your targets carefully.

There is no such thing as too much speed.
Don't expect wyches to murder massive amounts of troops. Rather expect wyches to never die once in close combat.
We are not an assaulty army. We are not a shooty army. We are a shoot and assault army.
Agonizers, punishers, and special weapons are your friends. So are Combat Drugs.
Tooled up archons are AMAZING against things like Marines and Wratihlords. Not so much against Orks. A tooled up archon btw, should have an agonizer, pistol, combat drugs, shadow field and plasma grenades, always plasma grenades. Alertnatively, give him a tormenter helm and punisher for a super troop killer (but don't expect him to fight a wraith lord.
Raiders may be made out of paper, but they're the best transport in the game, bar none. Keep them cheap and realize, they can die to bolter fire. Some people like horror fexes. Some people like night shields. Some people like disintegrators. Find what suits you.
Wyches should always have wych weapons and plasma grenades and a succubus with either an agonizer or a punisher.
If you ever take a punisher just mark down the points for a tormenter helm as well, they're required.
Warriors are one of the best troop choices in the game for their points.
If you are taking a sniper squad (10 men, 2 dark lances) blasters are optional. Otherwise, every unit should have 2 blasters and if they're warriors 2 splinter cannons. Our special weapons win games.
You're going to have a lot of KP. Lots of paper plane KP. Kill them fast enough so it doesn't matter.
You do not want to kill your enemy in one assault round. You want to kill your enemy in two assault rounds.
Scourges and Hellions are greatly over priced. Mandrakes just don't do anything. Reavers are, in my oppinion, right on the boarder line.
Grotesques will not win a combat. Grotesques with an archon will win a combat. An archon by himself will win a combat.
Unless you consider ramming a monolith a viable strategy (I don't know yet), we can not take down a monolith, go for phase out or play to the mission, dark lances kill necron warriors just as good as anything else.
Everything I have told you, even this, is a lie.
thanks for the above post, new to DE myself, good to hear a bit about the general way the army is played.
ShadowcatX, you can't ram with any of our vehicles as none of them are tanks.
