None! My Destroyers do a sufficient job in dealing with enemy armour.
I use another unit for tank hunter purposes.
2-3 Heavy Destroyers!
4-6 Heavy Destroyers!
7-9 Heavy Destroyers!
I’m building up my Necron army at the moment and was wondering...
With the new 5th edition rules limiting Necron Gauss weapons from destroying tanks on a glancing hit, meaning that their only solid ranged anti-tank unit is the ‘Heavy Destroyer’. Plus with strong rumours going around about the new Necron Codex not being due out till 2010 were going to be stuck with it for a while, so I’d like to ask...“How many ‘Heavy Destroyers’ do you have in your army for dealing with enemy armour?”
Just the two - and I loath having to bring them
i have 3 but they've yet to do anything to a tank
None, for a plain reason! They're a WASTE of VERY spendy points! 65 pts for a SHORTER lascannon is rediculous! Seriously, what army pays 65pts for lascannons (and even then lascannons are TRUELY 48", ours are 36" with a movement of 12"). Regular destroyers do just fine, bring plenty of them and they'll devastate anything. I have 9 destroyers now, tempted to get 15 total, because 15 destroyers just the CHEESIEST! S6 shots, and 3 of them can gauss PLENTY of things, and I POP plenty of things too. Jetbikes with armor of 10, side armor of vindicators, etc...plenty of things S6 can POP still. ANd honestly, destroying the NASTY weapon on a land raider or something like that is just as good as destroying it, especially since it's now not a threat!
Paying so many points for HD's is severely a waste, especially if anyone SMART enough just focuses fire once you move them out to deny WBB...Regular destroyers ftw!

Two squads of three, moving them together so that if one squad wipes, it joins the other. However, I don't mainly take them for anti-tank...
I take them for anti-MC, anti-2+ saves and anti-tank. Tooled up carnifex are difficult to kill with regular gauss, as are Daemon Princes and other similar units. If I have no MCs to shoot at, I probably have tanks, and I definitely have a much better chance to kill said tank with a model only 15 points more than a destroyer. If I have no tanks out, there are always the units with 2+ armour saves, or units that are vital to the enemy that I simply need to die. Command squads, Broadsides, assault squads... if I need it dead, I rely on Heavy Destroyers.
My gaming group's new motto: That army you're using is overpowered because it hurts my guys, codex is broken and needs a rewrite.
Currently have 3 but might up them to 2x2.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
I've never used them, I don't have them. Waste of fragile points. More shots and/or more robust stats and maybe I'll give 'em a try.
