Welcome to Librarium Online!
I haven't played a game of 40k in over two years, but right now I feel have both the time and money to get back into the hobby. (:
My life's been pretty boring recently and now being a bit older, and having a job (and therefore money ), I can see myself being an avid tabletop gamer again. Muahaha. ^^
I used to play Space Wolves and (for a very short time) Khorne. Both very CC-orientated armies. And now I'm interested in Orks. So I guess you could say I have an obsession. ;]
Having not touched anything Warhammer in well over 12 months, I need you to tell me what's changed. Specifically with Orks. Would you recommend me collecting them, or point me towards a different choice?
Seeing that the good ol' greenskins have recently been updated has brought great interest to them. I was always a fan, but not of the older models. The new ones, though, appear faultless.
So, please, Ork fans, sell them to me. Tell me all the pros and cons of leading a horde of bloodthirsty greenskins into battle. Besides the red stains all over my clothes. Those I can deal with. =]

Well, for starters, orks are FUN! Their codex is a riot to read, and is full of characterful units. Brutal, and fun.
As it's one of the most recent codexes, the army list will remain valid for a long time to come. It's a very competitive codex as well, and many different builds are possible, most of them efficient.
I personally love most models, and there's plenty more goodness to come.
And playing hordes is just the bomb, if you can survive the huge painting times.

Just note that going from Space Wolves and Khorne to Orks means you will need atleast double if not triple the amount of models you had in either of those armies. But if you have the time and money for the endevour I highly recommend it
A ton has changed in 40k in the past few years, too much to describe in the limited time I have to post. You'll need to pick up the new Ork Codex along with the 5th Ed rules and basically re-learn how to play (but it'll be worth it!!!!)

Just ordered the Codex and two lots of the Black Reach Orks last night. I'll get painting when it arrives and start from there... not enough for a decent army list yet I imagine but a good start nevertheless.
2 AoBR boxes is a good start.. but you need more Boyz... LOTS more Boyz.

The models, condensed 40k Rulebook and Orks Codex arrived this morning. A slight annoyance at 7.20 in the morning, but I was soon smiling when I realised what it was.
And now I'm seeking advice. I have 40 Boyz, 10 Nobz, 6 Deffkoptas and 2 Ork Warbosses. I understand they are mostly just a few piece models but I was wondering if someone could conjure up a basic army list using these models, that will form part of a larger army when I have models. I think I need this so that I can assemble them with the right weapons and such.
Obviously I have the Codex myself but not really sure how to equip my Nobz.
If you search this forum you will find plenty of advice for people who have been in similar situations. However, this is it in a nutshell:
1) Nobz have to have power claws. One of the most important duty for a Mob of Boyz is to carry the Nob with the power claw to its target.
2) You need to decide on whether you want to play speed freaks or horde. After that you buy either more vehicles or lots of Boyz.

as parcival says, one nob per mob w/ pk is essential. divide your boyz into two mobs of 20 + nob. this is perfect for charging down your foes
20 boyz w/ stikkbombz + nob + powerklaw = 192 points?
ideally 3 of these should be in any ork army
you can then form your 8 remaining nobz into a retinue for your warboss. i'd advise not paying for 'eavy armour and taking a painboy and cyborking them. also arm them with big choppas except one with a pk. this will make them formidable CC warriors whilst not costing very much at all. Stikkbombz are a good idea as well
I'd also advise giving your warboss an attack squig because there are very few things more terrifying than 6 S10 attacks.
Personally, i'm a huge fan of the deffkoptas. if i'm not using Kans i like to have 2 squads of three armed with KMB. they'll draw fire from your boyz nicely as well as providing incredible fire support.
later purchases you might consider are a big mek w/ SAG a squad of ten lootas and more boyz. big meks and lootas can really **** up someones day.
I see that no-one has looked at the deff koptas yet. As I utterly dislike the koptas for reasons many, I recommend converting them into warbikers. They totally rock, if used properly. 5 bikers and a nob biker with p/k charging in on a flank can really hit hard. Also, the enemy will usually see them as a huge threat and blast them to pieces, but then you boyz will hit his lines and cause a CC bloodbath.
Welcome back to the hobby and good luck!
