Welcome to Librarium Online!
Is there any point to buying grots besides just being used as meat shields?
They're cheap meat shields. 107 points (29 grots and 2 runtherds) nets you 31 models! You can give your boyz cover, mob up on problem enemies, even hold objectives while going to ground.
The best part about Grots is their low cost and scoring status, I just love the little blighters.

I personally don't use them... I have no problem with the grots, they're great, I just don't own any
There is 1 other Ork player in my area and he uses a squad of 30 gretchen (28 grots, 2 runtherders) and i just sits them on objectives and goes to ground... works like a charm.
If he's playing any other scenario, he just uses them as meatshields. So far its working out very well for him

Saim-Hann Eldar: 5000 Points
Acheap way to make some grot rather than spend a fortune on rthe metals is to use a box of ogre gnoblars with any spare pistols guns you can find glued on instead of there sings etc, cheap cheerful and looks good. (tip thanks to paul.)
there is a very good reason, the models, there some of the greatest metal models GW has ever produced, and the plastics look good too
You can use them (like I did once) to kill Grey Knights. One Grey Knight actually died from a Gretchin's lucky shot with his lowly pistol. Needless to say that retaliation was brutal and every single Gretchin died. However, we hadn't laughed like that for quite a long while.

Meat shielding and annoyance, really.
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

The Dutch Legion
One of the cheapest troops units of the game. Invaluable!
And yes, the models are just fantastic. Not to mention very small, and therefore easy to hide behind terrain to hold an objective without getting shot at.

Yup, I'm a fan of the 19 and 1 runtherder (or some such) - they are great ways to A) hold an objective and Maximize your points when you have an odd number of trukks One 1000 point squad uses 3 trukks squads and 18 gretchin.
Course, I need models still - waiting for plastics.
i'm waiting for plastics. i like the idea of them but i'll be damned if i pay nearlly £30 for a worthwhile unit
