Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hello LO eldar members I need some help with my first Apoc game. It is going to be 6k eldar (me) vs 3k necron and 3k of chaos.
My biggest concern is the necron player, I know he is going to be fielding 3 liths I'm not sure if he is going to field them as monolith phalanx or a Doomsday phalanx. To add to my problems he will be using a pylon also, unsure if he will be using a formation with it. The only things I have that can pen a monolith are my flying council, and the 6 prism sunstorm I will be fielding.
The chaos will be running abbadon and probably a couple other names with termies and a couple of landraiders. Thats all I'm sure off anyway.
Should I use my sunstorm to shoot at the monoliths? Or try to just blow up all his crons to try and force a phase out? How big of a target should the pylon be? Any general tips for a first time Apoc player?
First of all Sunstorm, Pylons back up? Well I can tell you the main techneques!
This is a real down side to Eldar on Necrons our best weapon brightlance is S8 meaning that the worst that it could do is destroy a weapon well one less particle cannon to worry about. If you really want to trash some Monoliths you need a Wraithlord other wise you can get singing your swan song! Before you tell me about lance rules Necron regenerative metal completely ignores this. NOT TO MENTION WILL BE BACKS!
If you want to really kick Necron ass direct all your blast template weapons at them using an Eldricht Storm can help! Don't forget the immense pyschic capabilities of yuor HQ thats the only reason they're there! Not to mention WS 4 can be effective if you have a warlock bodyguard nearby you can equip them with the enhance ability by 1+ this may not sound like much but such a ability can turn the tide of battle!
Fire Prism, sexy i think you know what to do use that lovely Small Blast S10 AP1 one ability against the Monoliths and use the Large on the Necron troop choices!
Dark Reapers, give excellent covering fire if you haven't equiped your Exrach with a Tempest I'm sorry but that'll serve you as a real disadvantage further into the game. 2 Blast Templates are better than one unless it's Krak!
Fire Dragons sadly no use against Monoliths but against Necron troops they inflict a bad case of Randy Bum Fun as luckily Necrons aren't immune to Meltas with their "will be backs"
Shining Spears ram into more troops!
Striking Scorpians use their infiltrate abilities to your hand place them right infront of some Chaos. As because of Necrons tendency of huge squads charging into them is worse than swallowing a live grenade!
Warp Spiders dancy surpress against Chaos! Large weapons which fire nets turn most enemies Alphabet soup.
Harlequins Hit and Run abilities use it to your advantage and if you find your harlequins will need to do a bit of running use your transport.
Guardians lets be honest corpses (unless with Warlock)
Dire Avengers useful but only to a certain extent!
Avatar, hobby a very big crap on the enemies defences
Hey thanks for the reply game is in about 6 hours glad someone gave me some answers before I played it. The fire prisms are my biggest weapon and also my biggest question mark. I can link up 4+ to get an auto pen focused shot or I can go for the bigger shot and hunt the troops. Thats my biggest question liths or troops with them.
I'm planning on using the waygate asset which will up eldric storms str if im close enough, thinking of placing 3 farseers in some guardian squads with an avatar to keep them in place by it. But scared its just going to get shot down before I can make much use of it.
Last thing that has me thinking is outflank from any edge with my jetbikes/vypers as a windrider host or start them on the field to get fortune roling as soon as possible on the council.
I'm unfamiliar with necron formations, so if it gives the liths any long range firepower, I'd say take out a lith or two first. Otherwise, you've got a big advantage in range over them and if youve got some distance between you I'd say worry about the phase out. That said, if they deep strike into the middle of you, go for the immediate threat.
Fire prisms / wraithguard are the best way to deal with liths, I would take a squad or 2 of like 5 wraithguards and put them in a wave serpent with a warlock and that way if he deepstrikes them into your lines you can jump out and waste them. (glancing on a 3-4 and pen on a 5-6 is nice) other wise just combine prisms for the large S6 AP3 blast to take out his troops and cause him to phase out. (if your prisms have holofields and get shaken or weapon destoryed dont forget that you can ram) if you can go over 18" you will cause a S9 or 10 hit and that can hurt his liths and you have a good chance of surviving since you got the holofield.
- You must set fire to water or you will be extinguished.
Well the game didn't go so well for me, as I feared my waygate was shot out before I got to do anything with it. I got his pylon on the third round so it didn't do much. But he had a lith formation that let him do 3 7" templates at str 9 ap 3 immoblized the thing round one then put 51 witchblade attacks into it over the next two round to absolutely no use just got a bunch of weapon destroyed which on a lith only reduces the number of shots on the flux. After that he just started blasting to many holes in my army for me to fight well.
Guess I give up on ever hurting a lith again even with D str weapons and just pile into his crons and hope for phase outs. But it was fun running around with that many guys on one table and thats the point of apoc games so will do more in the future.
Thanks once again to everyone that offered advice.
