Not sure if this has been raised before, so lets see what the reaction is
We all know that Tau hate cc but we do know that they like using drones for doing nasty repetative work so haw about creating a new type of drone that deals with cc action? For example:
normal gun drone fitted with two pistols
normal gun drone fitted with revolving blades, act as power blade
Heavy drone fitted with power fist and blade +shield generator?
Well.... the idea makes sense... but the Tau aren't capable of building CC models, no matter how hard they try! The only models they have that are worth CC trouble are the battlesuits... they actually fair quite well against most other troops.... but the whole cc drone thing.... i wouldn't pursue it.... would be interesting to see as a conversion, but not good for gaming in my eyes....
ok the drone with 2 pistols sounds ok but drones with power weapons is crazy. y would they get to ignore armour saves? they're 12 point models. THe heavy drone is the 1 that doesnt make sense at all theyd be too good for tau. they would be awesome. a squad of them could kill anything almost. they could prolly kill a warboss in 4 hits.
its a cool idea but no, dont pursue

Tau are *supposed* to be crap in close combat for the sake of game balance, so any attempt to "fix" this weakness is unbalanced by definition.
drones are already better in CC than firewarriors are. Its that whole initiative 4 thing, puts em right up there with space marines...too bad their WS, T, and S are a bit to be desired.
It would be interesting to make drones that are essentially crappier versions of Necron scarabs, not to do damage but to tie things up in CC.
