Does anybody have experience playing Boss Zagstuk and his Vulcha Squad? How effective is he really?
-Must deep strike
-Can assault the turn they are deployed at the expense of d3 boyz
-PK that hits on I4 for the first round of combat!!
-Has equivalent of a boss pole, except the squad automatically passes the check.
Depending on how many Boyz I end up purchasing, I was considering kustomizin 20 of them as Stormboyz and Zagstruk using SM jump packs. I'm using magnets to mount the jetpacks, so I can still choose to use 'em as slugga boyz if I choose.
They seem alright, nothing special, but Zagstruk's Power Klaw attacks sound good. Deep Strike in, Assualt, quickly move on to another unit, to try and take advantage of his Klaw again.
Only thing I would do is make sure you take the full 20 Boy unit. Your going to lose a maximum of 3 Boyz before combat if you charge, plus when you move you may lose another Boy per turn, plus Zagstruk thinks he's a Commisar, and could lose even more. So if you want the unit rather than just Zagstruk, take a big unit.
Also.. Can all Stormboyz deepstrike if the mission allows it?
I'm not a fan of Zagstrukk. I think he's inferior to a nob with a powerklaw and bosspole, and that's not even considering his point cost.
Besides, deep striking with stormboyz doesn't make sense. With their speed, they'd reach that spot on the board by turn 2 anyway. Immediately losing d3 guys is bad enough, but then you have to risk a deep strike mishap, and you can only assault if you land within 6 inches of an enemy. Considering the average scatter distance is 7 inches (unless you hit), this doesn't seem likely at all.
Even if everything goes right, you can roll badly the first turn of combat, and then not have any more powerklaw attacks for the entire battle. I've seen entire squads of stormboyz get wiped out to an ork, simply because they were counter-assaulted by a walker or monstrous creature after assaulting the first target. Without any powerklaw attacks, the stormboyz are doomed.
Forget Zagstrukk and forget deep striking them in. Use 17-20 with a nob, powerklaw and bosspole, hide them behind cover, and then assault at your earliest convenience.
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
As a imperial guard player i find and ork commisar hilarios, and zagstruks getting his own miniture aswell so no need for convertin.
If Slaanesh is the god of the Perverse, why does Nurgle have all the filth?
how do you suggest he is inferior to a nob with bosspole and PK? He eats things up with his same I attack on the dive.
PM me about Aurora Prime Vassal fights! Willing and ready!
Maybe wait till the stormboy kit comes out in jan and buy them instead of spending time customising everything, save you lots of labour.
Lots of labor? Thats why I'm starting Orks! I've never done much kunvertin to my other armies. I want to have at least 50% of this one be kunvershunz.
Storm Boys with SM Jump Packs
Meganobz build from Ork Boyz and SM Terminators
Tankbustas with SM Rocket Launchers and a carved up piece of the sprue
Okay, so they're all using SM stuff.. I need to start thinking of new things to use. I've always liked IG sentinels, but only thing I can think to use them for is Dreads, and I'm carving those out of wood.
Thanks for the suggestion Grax. You have a point. I do like the idea of using a PK with I4, but thats only for the first turn of an assault. The DSF for a 20 strong squad of Vulchas is fairly large too, and deepstriking mishaps always put me in a sour mood.
I would suggest useing them.
Why? Int.4 powerklaw, assualting while deepstriking, fearless[at a cost] Great model. When I deepstrike them I think of this in a sense http://tsoalr.com/?p=115
There. It is your WAAAAAUGH though so you choose.
Lets go massacre something
I am a sexy shoeless god of war!
He's OK, but just not worth the ton of points he costs. If he costed only a little more than a Nob w/PK and Pole, then its all fine and good. But the drawback of "must Deep Strike" and costing twice that of the nob, not the best usage.
Still, a good fig and if he works, he really works.
