Ok so I'm starting an ork army and will be getting the AOBR set soon (only for the orks though, I'm giving away the space marines to a friend). I have a friend who recently started a tau army consisting of two boxes of fire warriors, a box of kroot carnivores, and some random hq character. What I want to know is whether or not I can take him on with the orks from AOBR or should I buy some more boyz / other stuff? It would be easier if someone could supply me with an army list based on the AOBR that could tackle that tau army.
Thanks in advance
you will need more boys to take on Tau. their firepower will annhilate you otherwise.

More boyz is never a bad idea as Orks. You might need to get the ork codex and write a list according to what points value game you are playing. I'm not sure how many points the AOBR set's orks add up to, but they could be over or under depending on what your friend has.

my brother is starting tau, and need to know how to deal with them too.
AoBR models add up to 485'ish, which is decent.

It sounds like the Tau have more points worth than you. It looks to add up to 500 points minimum, but probably closer to 600 with upgrades and such.
Tau are crazy shooty and you'll need lots of boyz to get stuck in as soon as possible. A KFF Mek, Bikes, Trukks, Stormboyz, grot shields will all help a lot.
Based on AoBR, I'd pick up 2 more boxes of Boyz and a Trukk. That will give you 2 big squads of boyz, Nobs in a Trukk, and the Deff Koptas. Get in assault quickly (even Deff Koptas can beat Fire Warriors) and you should be fine.

if i wa syou i would pick up the battlion and a pain boy?
the list would be
boss pwrclaw cybork body boss pole 95
5 Nobz 1Pain Boy cybork bodies, stikkbombs in a trukk 300 ish
20 boyz nob with pwr claw 2 rockets 230ish
20 boyz nob with pwrklaw and boss pole 2 big shoota's 215 ish
3 def koptas t/l rockets 135
3 bikes 90 ish
basicly it would give you about a 1000 point force to build on
thanks for the replies but I have one more question: Should I split my boyz half of them being shootas while the other half being sluggas or should all of them have sluggas instead?
AoBR only provides Slugga Boyz, which is a little (very little) bit of a disappointment to me, since I'll be making my army out of 4 AoBR boxes + kunvershunz.
I've playtested just about everything in the Ork codex via proxy, save a few, and find Shoota Boyz to be disgustingly effective. They seemed to go un-noticed the first games, as they favored shooting up my Slugga Boyz. Da Shootas tallied up a hefty number of kills, well more than the 200 or so points I spent fielding them. Don't underestimate Ork dakka, but it seems to be most effective in large quantity or when twin linked.
Just a side note, twin linked BS 2 is better than BS 3, but not quite as good as BS 4. Not sure if people give Ork double-dakka enough credit.
At any rate, the only successful games I've playtested had boyz boyz boyz and more boyz. Make sure you have at least 60 ork boyz before you start kustomizin. You could easily field 2 squads of 30 for every 500 points, and still have plenty points left over. Don't know if you'd want to do that or not though, just thought I'd throw it out there.
I've recently become a fan of this thing called Dubstep. And you should too.

Da Moo Kowz is da drinkinest Orks of dem all!
this is a hot button issue to use a political word.
although the 20 shootboyz is nice and you don't mind it guarding the luggage in your deployment zone, I would model them all as slugga boyz for 2 main reasons.
1) if you want to firefight other armies with orks there are at least 3 other units that do it better (flash gits, loota's and battle wagons)
2) if you need a unit to hold the fort in your deployment zone a squad of 10 grots with slaver sets you back 40 points and that offsets the cost of more elite units.
I don't know it seems that a slugga boy is solid in combat and at times as good as assult specialist in other armies where as the shota is sub par beacuse if you are 24" away from the enemy as an orc you should be putting an axe in somebuddies head because you are not a dire avenger or an angry umie girl you are bread for one thing waaaaaaaagh!
maybe went of the deep end there but hopefully you get he point.
