Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi I was looking through the army lists today and it looks like the majority of people keep their ravagers armed with Dark Lances. I was wondering which weapon you arm your ravager with and why.
Two disintegrators and one Dark lance. Moving 12" and firing all 3 too good to miss!
This is a matter where I take into account what army I am versing and the points limit. I believe in the following:
- Good for enemies with small squad sizes
- Good against high Toughness opponents
- Good against those annoying Monstrous Creatures
- Good against ANY Vehicle (except maybe a Monolith)
People may have different opinions on them, but this is how I personally find them. Judging on this, I would take more DLs against
- Good against enemies with large squad sizes
- Good against those swarm armies
- Good for targeting against flankers
- Effective at keeping the enemy at bay
- Space Marines
- IG with a lot of Vehicles
- Eldar with a lot of Vehicles
If the points cost allows me, I will always take three Ravagers. Maybe a Talos, but that is another tale. Against the high model count, there will be more Dissies on my Raiders and try and outfit one of the Ravagers as a whole Dissies one and the others DLs. Against high T opponents, pretty much the same thing, but more majority of DLs on the Raiders. There will be one or two Dissies here and there on them, however. I will always field a sniper squad, so there will always be that little extra kick.
- Other Dark Kin
- Chaos Daemons without a lot of MCs
Anywho, it is all about playing games, learning what works best for you, and more importantly, making the opponent find out what works worst for them, so you know to take what you did the next time. Hope you can derive some meaning from all this.

I've been using a 3 dissie ravager for a while as my opponent is fond of large amounts of troops. However with the amount of armour he's now fielding I'm going back to the standard 3 lance setup.
Win 2. Draw 1. Losses 11.
I'm still learning. :)
I used to favour the 'Vect' setup of 2 dissies and 1 DL that Gamesbluetiger mentioned, but recently have been fielding 2 ravagers (at 1500pts), 1 with all dissies and 1 with all DLs. This seems to be working pretty well so far as each can be very specialised in their role. As Hawkuli sagely advises, this would be massacring troops with the dissies and popping tanks or very tough models with the DLs

I prefer the 3 lance ravager - when I take 3 ravagers, 2 of which will be 3 lance ravagers.
Example: My Vect list has 4 ravagers in it, 2 will be 3 lance ravagers while the 4th is 3 disintegrators - vect is the only one with the 1 lance, 2 lance variation. This setup works good for me as 2 ravagers are for popping armor, MC's and super HQ's while vect and the 3 dissy ravager work on crowd control.
I am quite pleased with the 3 lance ravager and since there is no benefit in moving more than 6" when being shot at I find I tend to move them 6" or less alot. Even in 4th I liked them and would often put them in a wwp. Once the portal was opened they would pop out 5" and get first shot on just about anything on the table (depending on the location of the wwp).
I would say that the 3-lance ravager has won me more MVP's in my games than any other unit (and the fact that I need to roll 3 lance shots at anything in order to overcome my bad luck!).
I will be fair however, the type of ravager I choose to use is dependent on the type of list I have. For example, in a wych cult list I tend to have plenty of "crowd control" units and a 3 dissy ravager tends to compete with the wyches for viable targets. Since wych cult lists are more assault heavy a 3 lance ravager compliments them nicely.
Lately, I have been using 2 Talos and a 3-lance ravager in a Kabal list.

Im going to second Hawkuli's assesment (rep to you!). That is the usual thought process I go through when putting together an army list and I think he summed it up very well.
(WH40K) Dark Eldar - (12,000pts) Sisters of Battle - (5000pts) Dark Angels -(3500pts) (WHFB) Dark Elves - (10,000pts) Beastmen - (5000pts) Empire - (3000pts) Wood Elves - (1500pts)
If your gaming situation is like mine, you won't know what your enemy is bringing until (s)he starts going "Ok, this is a Thingamajig with Doohickey cannons and added Gadgetry". In fact, you'll probably not even have the luxury of knowing what arm(y/ies) you'll be fighting before you're actually pulling your minis out of the foam. If this applies to you, I'd say you should balance your army for all comers. As such, as much as I love me some more DLs, unless you know you're up against armies with few, tough models or loads of vehicles, you should probably go with the dissies, and instead tool up your Warriors with Lances, though 1DL/2Dissie combos are also possible - I just have this sneaking gut feeling that specialization is the way to go.
While I agree partially with Hawkuli, I really have to disagree on some of the targets he chooses.
I always go with 3 dissies on my ravagers and dark lances on my raiders, so remember this is from a person who hasn't used the dl ravager. Also I don't change my lists dependant on an opponent I am about to vs. I design my list and see then back it for all its worth.
3 dissies are immensly good at taking down anyhting with powerarmour/terminator armour. I'd say much better than DL's, especially now that cover saves are so prominent. This is because the shear number of hits you can deal out with 1 hitting blast (let alone the 1.8 that should hit and any other scatter) out perform the damage DL's can output.
While I agree that they can not take down tanks, I've never really required them to. This is where my sniper squads come in to play. They sit back, give the tanks targets and stay in cover to try and preserve wounds, something they are surprisingly good at now they get saves!
I have been tempted to take a ravager in place of one of one of my sniper squads however the additional scoring unit and added durability is just too much to throw away.
Dear Game Developer,Caps-Lock, its like cruise-control for AWESOMENESS!

WWP and other Dark Eldar how to
If my only source of Dark Lances were from Ravagers then of course that’s what I would arm them with.
But our race is rife with S 8 AP2 weapons…but it’s not so blessed with S7 AP2 blast/ S4 AP 3 heavy 3 weapons.
These are specialist guns that suit specialist vehicles and to me, it’s the reason for the existence of the Ravager in the first place.
Vect is just plain weird to me with his mixed weaponry and is a fine example of our Codex trying to be just too different from any other.
If I knew in advance what I was opposing in a game, then and only then would I tailor the firepower to suit the occasion but since I rarely have precognition with my opponents roster I will stick to the old adage of “Don’t mix your weaponry.”
P.S. Kwi does have a good point with a Wych Cult though.
