Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ya, attached is my red terror image,
Mine will be repainted to my new armies color standard but at the time I felt a bright red monster would pull a lot of attention, instead a reasonable organism would want to blend into the jungles a little. Regardless of the fact its 25meters tall.
I liked this guy a lot. He was the first bug I painted for my last nid swarm. As such he prolly has the best detail I was able to manage back then
Dark Angels Green for base of body, bleached bone for carapace
then for highlighting I used Bone White[not sure if this is correct name, its the GW brand white]
Then I used Flesh wash[GW] to add the detail to the armor and head.
Spots along back were bleached bone.
Simple color scheme great results
As far as tactics go, make sure it's within synapse, to prevent instakill. You don't want that to happen to your special guy! You can use him in any situation where you'd want to send a melee HT in, although the Terror just isn't a strong as a full kitted HT is most of the time. Instead, you could use him as a countercharge unit to protect your ranged carnifexes. Also, I don't think you'll want to make use of his special "swallow whole" ability that much. Most of the time, you're better off with your normal attacks. But you can use it to remove a special CC weapon sometimes, or swallow a farseer with it XD And that last part, is really fun to do!
too many points and being large and different looking he draws a lot of attention.
Sure, the Red Terror is a great guy to do his 'evil' when deepstriking.
My problem with deepstriking him is that he can't do shit after his arrival. Meaning he's probably going to eat every available anti tank weapon, and not going to survive that. The Red Terror just isn't a tough as a HT. And he can be instakilled because he's only T5. That's "bye bye points! I should have bought another Carnifex for that!".
My point is, that although the Red Terror can really tear up units on a charge, I think he's best when doing to protect your important units. And not making your Terror that important unit. Gaunts, stealers, carnies, HT's; those are the units that count and most of the time will win you the game! Gaunts and stealers are now needed also for controlling objectives, all the while HT's and your carnies are there to make sure you kill his troops and other things.
As already commented, the Red Terror is this strange guy with special rules, and as most people know, you want to take these guys out as fast as possible. Most of the times at least.
I like to use him as a personal bodyguard, hiding in the shadow of a carnifex, who walks along the little critters. When needed, the Red Terror pops from behind the carnifex, and starts doing his job: Making sure every other model he's charged to protect can do his.
Horde of Flamers heading for the gaunts? You can run away, and give the objective to him; stay and get killed; or send the Terror to deal with them.
Some terminators comming for the fexes? Send the Terror. Sure, he'll die, but he'll take almost the whole terminator squad with him (assuming they're not carrying shields!).
Lascannons trained to take the last 2 wounds from your HT? Position your Terror between your HT, and all of a sudden, the HT has Cover, or won't be shot at at all!
Because the Terror is fast, you can do this easier.
