Welcome to Librarium Online!
About two years ago my local Comix shop went through a change of owners. The new owner wanted nothing to do with WHFB or 40k, and had massive discounts on all products to get rid of them. I bought a Space Wolves battle box and split two WHFB old starter boxes with a friend. I got the Empire half and he got the Ork half. Random tangent: The boxes were $20 off plus an additional 60%. I love this store, we spent about $30 each xD. Anywho, now two years later, I haven't touched my Space Wolves, and he hasn't touched his WHFB Orks.
Hence the trade.
He's giving me something like
-70 Ork Warriors (40 with choppas, 20 with bows)
-3 Warbosses, One mounted on a Wyvren
-20 Goblin Wolf Riders
-10 Ork Boar Riders
-Other assorted things
My question is.. any ideas how I can kunvert these feral boyz to include them into my Waaagh!? What about the Wolf Riders, Boar Riders, and Chariots? Anything I can do with them so they don't blatantly look like WHFB models?
Sounds like a good idea, the easiest way to de-Fantasize the O&Gs is to mix in 40k bits, choppas, shootas, techy gubbinz (any spare bits from a Trukk sprue or random tanks), and the like will give you the proppa feel.
Wolf/Boar Riders = Bikers (Boars could be Nobs), Chariots = Buggies or Deff Koptas (chariot with jet engine ), Wyvern Boss = Biker Boss, Arrer Boyz = shootas (replace the arrows with stikkbombs or dynamite and you get the idea), Gobbos = grots.
That would look suitably feral I'd think. If you wanted to go a couple steps further, the new Lizardmen Steggie looks to be a proppa Squiggoth in disguise.
I just got back from my friends place. Turns out I was wrong. He's giving the Wolf and Board Riders / Chariots to his wife.
And he actually had 103 Ork Warriors
We also picked up our AoBR boxes today, so I have in full:
2 Warbosses, 10 Nobz, 140 !! Ork Boyz, and 6 Deffcoptas all waiting for me to start choppin up and painting.
I's so happy ^-^
Now, if only I can find the time to get started on them >.<
I tested them out last night, 1000 points versus his exceptionally well painted SM Strike Force Epsilon. I can't find the words to describe the turn out. Butchered? Massacred? Propa-stomped!
1x Warlord with PK and HA
9x Nobz with 6x BC, 2x PK, and 1 Painboy
2x30 Slugga Boyz with PK Nob
3x Deffcoptas with TL Rokkits and 1x Buzz Saw
Mopped the floor with his Battle Captain, two tactical squads, two venerable dreadnoughts, and predator.
I will reiterate, I's so happy ^-^
Now you've got a proppa Waagh! started, feels good doesn't it
I'd try and raid some bits boxes to turn a couple of those boyz into Lootas (8-22) for some serious dakka. Regular shoota boyz are always welcome for general krumping, and Sluggas bring da choppin'. If you're running a green tide, you will need a Big Mek with a Kustom Force Field. I'd recommend chopping up one of your bosses to put together a suitable Mek. If you want to keep the feral theme, have him lugging around a salvaged void shield generator or give him some huge smokescreen making fing.
Yes, it does feel good.
WAAAGH! Never Ending Party has only just begun
I was wondering about the WHFB 'Feral' Boyz, would it be alright to leave the square bases on them, or is this too much of a faux pas? I think in the end it would probably look crappy with a mix of square and round bases, or possibly lend to the fact that they are indeed WHFB Orks. Or wouldn't this matter once they were based?
What are your recommendations for Ork Loota Boyz? I've seen some nice kunvershuns, but I was thinking about just giving them random handheld heavy bolters and autocannons, other bitz to complete the look, like auspex over one eye and random antenna, but I really don't know what else.
I'd try to stick with round bases, but it's your call. I think it would reinforce the idea of Feral Orks if they still had their primitive square bases
As for Lootas, just some random looted weaponry works just fine.
