Ok so here is the run down:
I happen to play Both orks and Tau. Yesterday i was having a massive Friday night of gaming, it was very enjoyable and I played a variety of armies. I was playing my 1200pt tau list for an upcoming tourney on 4x4 tables, just to test the army on exact sized surfaces in mixed terrain.
So here is where it gets Orky!
I played a big ork horde, the guy was a bit off an 'occasional' gamer, he had models from back in 2nd right the way to current Defkoptas.
His deffkoptas cause absolute havoc wityh my army! with their scouting rule and us playing an opposing table quarters mission they were able to JUST fit in a small space left between my Railheads rear and the corner of the board. As it was quarters, they were then able to come in from the side, which was effectively in line/ the rear of my armour.
He got lucky I must admit, but 3 koptas blew my HH sky high.. and then the 5 total (which after a bad bad terrible round of shooting was 4 altogether, yes i only killed 1)went on to blow the side off my Fish full of FW.
Now my tough choice...
I run a blood axe army and love it to death, especially how it is so well themed. I run 2 squads of 2 Rokkit Buggies, which are looted SM Landspeeders. I really like how they fit Blood axe Fluuf (The lootig of enemy armour) and buggies with rokkits have always been useful. they are also very expendable and can be used to block LoS / Give cover saves to following boyz / Block passageways for flankers.
After seeing just how good deffkoptas are, and I do realise that the two, really are fighting for the same space in an army, I just wonder.. would deffkoptas be a far better choice for my army? Fluff wise I say no.. but I think competitive wise yes they would be better...
What do People think of this?
Is there room in an army for 3 deffkoptas and 4 Rokkit buggies even? Maybe I could have the best of both worlds? Although I think this may weaken the whole army, having so many points then invested In such easy to pop units? Is it then too many expendible units? This is for around 2000pts Btw.

Deff Koptaz could be looted Imperial jetbikes
I'd say it's up to you. Deff Koptas are cheap, they scout, bring a lot of dakka and can tie units down in combat. Buggies are softer, but very speedy and immune to most basic weaponry.

I think deffcoptas could even be passed off by any small vehicle, even a simple bike with some sort of hover-looking device underneath or on the sides. Or just tough looking bikes.
Step 1: Grab a Necron Destroyer.
Step 2: Glue an Ork to his back.
Step 3: Convert the Ork's arm so that he's shoved a stick into the brain of the Destroyer.
Step 4: Model a game controller linked to the Destroyer's gun for your Ork.
Step 5: Use your new "joystick" controlled "jetbike/deffkopta" to rip armies in half.
As to the general question - I'm not an Ork player, but speaking as one who's having to regularly beat them off my Necron and Daemon armies, I've always had more troubles with Koptas than I have with buggies. The whole squadron formations really do mess with the surviability of buggies; 10/10/10, open topped, and squadron doesn't help them much.
Here is the key difference between buggies and koptas. Buggies are great in small squads as they have an AV. Koptas need to be in bigger groups because they have a leadership. Take three koptas and if you lose one the other two will most likely run off the table. Take three buggies and lose one, the other two are still out there banging away at the enemy. So, if you have the extra points for 5 koptas, give them a try. Otherwise, if you can't spare the points, you are better off with buggies.
Just my thoughts...
What are thoughts on running Koptas + Buggies in 2000pts?

I've found the best use for Deffkoptas is utilizing their flanking ability to come on the table behind your enemy's units. There they can pummel rear vehicle armour and generally cause a lot of havok. This is really the only effective way to use Deffkoptas IMO.
As said, they are a weak unit. No bosspole makes them very susceptible to being forced to flee; even with a group of 5 (which is super-expensive), losing two will most likely send them fleeing.
Also, Buzzsaws aren't very useful. Deffkoptas don't get Furious Charge and have the basic Ork strength of 3 meaning Buzzsaws will be attacking at S6, hardly anything to brag about (only IG powerfists are as weak! How humiliating!)
When I use Deffkoptas I use 3 (the smallest possible), have them flank and use them as a tank hunter. They can turbo-boost onto the board (24" move) meaning that no matter what side they come on they'll have the speed to reach most enemies, they'll get a 3+ cover save and next turn they'll be in prime position. Then my opponent has some choices to make; does he concentrate his fire on this unit of twin-linked rokkits, or ignore it and probably lose a vehicle? Chances are, as a decoy or tank-hunter they'll do some good; 3 of them is cheap enough to make a good decoy unit suddenly appearing behind your enemy.

I plan to run Buggies and Deathkoptaz as I don't have any other units in my Fast Attack slots. Which one (or both) I am going to use in a particular game will be just a matter of available points.

Deffcoptas do indeed benefit from the Furious Charge special rule. Their attacks will be S8 on the charge, and S6 otherwise. I see no reason not to load up one or two Buzzsaws in a full unit of Deffcoptas- they move a LOT faster than Ork Boyz, so even if you have to give one mob's Nob a Big Choppa rather than a PK to fit it in, I think it'd be worth it. That is, of course, assuming you have a reason for deploying them in the first place and they are not just a points filler, as the PK would probably be better suited on a Nob then.
In other news, I've been slowly play testing different units to better inform my future purchases. Last night I played against my friend's Nids, proxying my Deffcoptas for Rokkit Buggies. They seemed about on par so far as survivability was concerned; however, they do have a trick up their sleeves that Deffcopta's don't have. Once reduced to a single Buggy, I decided to say.. screw it! The dakka just wasn't enough, so I tank shocked 'is buggy arse. That is, I tank shocked his Godzilla Carnifex. He laughed at the idea, calling me insane (cue Infected Mushroom - Becoming Insane). He wasn't laughing long though, his Fex managed to rip off my rikkits, leaving the Buggy in tact. Splat. Now, without a weapon to fire, I decided to say screw it once again and tank shocked his Hive Tyrant next turn. He didn't think I'd get so lucky twice in a row, but didn't want to risk losing his last synapse creature so he stepped aside and promptly smashed the buggy next turn. Still though, I took down 250 points of his toughest, meanest genetic monstrosity in a single moment of reckless abandon. For that alone I'll definitely be grabbing up a squadron of Buggies in the future, even though it will likely never happen again.
