So, we have had some time to see the new Space marine codex in action. Is there anything that you are afraid of. I cannot think of anything that we should not be able to handle with a balanced list.
With that said, I would like to see a drop podding list with some sternguard. Wounding on +2 does not give our MC a whole lot of breathing room. Just be sure to have some stealers ready to smack them in the face for their trouble.
So what are your thoughts?
Sternguard and vanguard are really good for us when taking, both units are very expensieve compared to normal mariens but they just die just easily.
I had a nid zilla style army. 2x dakka tyrants (1 flying, 1 walking w/guard), 2 elite CC fexes, 2 sniper fexes, flanking stealers and a whole mess of gaunts. And yes I know the dakka fex is supposed to be superior, but in this case it wouldn't have mattered. He dropped both fexes before they moved (vindicator lucky scatter + las-cannon fire + plasma guns).
So what I fear are lots and lots of marines.
"The internet perceives censorship as damage, and routes around it."
I think that Nidzilla isn't as good as it was in the previous edition. Huge mobs of infantry with plasma and lascannons will smear you big critters. I would suggest that you invest in some cheaper critters. Infantry are often the worst enemy of a monstrous creature. Tanks can be squished and things such as Sniperfex's can do a fair amount of damage to them. Infantry such as Marines have good saves and that is what will ruin your day. The armour save of a Space marine makes it very hard to kill with normal weapons.
If they outnumber you then you will be shot up with special and heavy weapons or mobbed by them. You should try to outnumber them. Swamp them with Spinegaunts and invest in some Zoanthropes to replace one of your Carnifex's. Zoanthropes are well worth it. Get some Tyranid warriors in elites too. Deathspitters, Rending claws, toxin sacs and extended carapace will make them good.
I've played two matches against the new SMs. Two observations:
1. Rhino are surprisingly useful, not just for transporting marines around, but also for absorbing sniperfex fire, blocking LOS and denying me objectives with turn 5 and turn 6 sprints.
2. With my current swarm's bias towards shooting I have lost the edge in assault, and have no answer for the new SMs' tooled cc characters. In the last game the characters came close to representing the fluffy super-killiness of senior space marines.
I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and start using a brood of genestealers again to scrape the assault marines back off my swarm when they hit it. Feeder tendrils, fleshhooks and EC make them expensive, so sadly gone are the days of genies from horizon to horizon.
Similarly, adrenal +I is looking like a good buy for carnifexes so they get to strike before powerfists.

Sternguard are really good moddels, but they die just are any other marine. Any tactics that works vs vanilla marines, works against them too. Sternguard lose all their coolness when in CC. So why not go do some unfriendly handshaking with them!? Stealers, CC HT's, Red Terror, CC Warriors, you name it, it will deal with them. You can always just saturate them with gaunts and a few Zoanthrope Blasts!
As for the vanguard, just laugh, and give them gaunts. You shouldn't care about their power weapons when attacking with critters that practically don't have them. Only your MC truely have to be fearfull for there guys, stealers, big clouds of gaunts and warriors can deal with them.
Also, if he took a lot of Vanguard, this means he had to take the points from somewhere:
1) his Troops (meaning it's easier for you to grab objectives)
2) his terminators (no assault cannons and heavy flamers!)
3) his Heavy support
And on the plus side, vanguard can't grab objectives, only contest them!
Remeber, there is a special character which allows Sternguard to grab objectives, and that is really a pain!
I saw someone recommende upping your I for carnifexes. I don;t really see the point in doing that. The only thing that helps, is that it will take out around 3 marines before getting killed himself, unless it's a CC varient. The upped I won't save him from powerfists, because of ablative wounds.

B'gosh Phalanx, you're right. No feeder tendrils for me on stealers - except on the broodlord. Scuttlers would also work for outflanking, which I've had some success with with the aforementioned broodlord.
Re the +I on carnifexes - I seldom send my assault carnie into a fight on its own, but even with some help it tends to get battered around by powerfists. For the price of one less gaunt I get to do something about this, so worth some experimentation, I think.
