How about a new seeker missile type based on the submunition round from the railgun. All the technology pieces are there and it would fit the tau methid of fighting.
Target must be targeted by a markerlight as per the standard seeker missile
Use ordnance blast circle
10pts per missile
Add 80pts for off table battery
so your saying have a sub blast be able to hit anywhere.......
no, leave it to the pros
"Learn to shorten your reach! If your foe can come close enough to negate your striking power, all strategem is lost and when all stratagem is lost, the battle is lost."

imagine having just 20 of those costing only 280 points...now imagine how many dead orks would be laying on the battlefield first turn....is that fair no we want to win but we want them to have a chance to right LiTtP

i'd say that sounds ok. Its a fine idea, but instead of it being so powerful, maybe be able to give it the same stats as a frag rocket, using the blast template instead of ordinance. It already fires krak missles, why not have the option to use frag missles too!
Well I was thinking they are not too powerfull because you hace to markerlight the target to request the strike, (one light = 1 missile?). If you cannot get a lock then you do not get a strike. It also means that you don not get hits all over the table like IG basalisk's or SM orbital strikes, a Tau with a markerlight has to be within 24" to get the lock.
If one ML hit is = to 1 strike the Pathfiners become pretty awsome
Also it makes giving a squad leader with ML far more attractive as you could lay a barrage against attacking troops, which is not unreasonable from a non CC army.
Re template, yes blast may be more playable, my think was that the Tau already have the submunition technology with the railgun, it would be an easy task to bolt the warhead onto the existing hardware.
Sorry 36" for a markerlight
