Hey guys, ive been considdering a new nid army for a while (will be repurchasing my codex next week) But i have a quick 5th edd question that im not sure the codex will cover, and i know the gw faq doesnt.
Individual units like zoanthropes, biovores, and lictors (all nice flavor units). Do they provide a kill point per model, or for the entire group?
Each individual model equals one KP. As they can work independently of one another, they can all be targeted individually, lest they are in a squad, but Zoanthropes are still classed as individual models, and so 1 model = 1 KP. Especially those Lictors.
Nice flavor units indeed! Watch your opponent faint when you send a Warp Blast coruscating through the foe, or when a Lictor just appears right in the enemy's ugly face.
Light a fire for a man, and he will be warm for a night. Light a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.
Yes, they individually produce a kill point each. That being said, don't let that deter you from Zoeys and Lictors, they're both great units when used properly. Though, if you aren't using Gaunts as a major source of scoring/frustrating, there's no reason to have Zoanthrope.
Oh well thats annoying, im most concerned about zoies, as i wanted 3 with synapse and wb. but being three very easy kill points is quite a deterant.
If you use the thropes for just synapse and leave the warp blast at home, then they'll live. IMHO, warp blast is a waste. It's short range combined with the mediocre BS of the thrope makes it too unreliable. Warp blast thropes draw a lot of fire because they are so effective at taking out tanks when they are in range.
FYI, three thropes will probably constitute less than 1/5th of the number of kill points in your army (in my case 3/16 KPs).

To be honest the KP rule is the one greates flaw in the tyranid codex. I rarely don't fill my force org chart. Witch means that my opponet gets Kill Points left and right even if i'm wiping him off the board. I personally hate KPs because it has no balancing to it. Armies with a high point cost to their models have a huge advantage. Space Marines the biggest.
I won't use my lictors and am taking as few Zonathrops as possable because of it. I advise all others to do like wise. The ups for lictors will never be worth.

Army's used: Space Wolves, Tomb Kings, High Elves, Tyranids, Tau and Eldar.
Tyranids (and other horde armies) are at a distinct disadvantage against more points heavy\fewer unit type armies in a game where you are going for kill points. I played a game against a gray knight army in which he had single Grey knight trooper left on the board at game's end, while I had several carnifexes and warrior units, but the game went to him. Its a pretty poorly-thought-out victory condition.
Having said that, I am thinking of switching out my carnifexes for Zoanthropes. I build only one force at a time, that I intend to be a take-all-comers list, so I'm not going to worry about Kill Points (which will be taken into consideration in a minority of games) for my list.
I'm running a campaign at my store right now, And made a point of using Victory Points instead of Kill Points in the Annihilation Scenarios.
The hard thing with nids and kill-points is you have to play more conservative then you should. I'd rather use the one remaining gaunt to try to tie a unit down then be required to pull it back for fear of losing a KP because of it.
With that said, remember that they have to wipe your unit completely out. Don't be afraid to take the few gaunts left in a unit and pull it back behind cover that prevents the enemy from taking it out.
In KP missions I always go into the game with the intent of wiping my opponent from the board. So his whole army was only worth 4 KPs. Dead is dead.
TamCroan brings up a good point. If your opponent is completely wiped out. That counts as instant win for you no matter how many more kill points he got on you. IMO the best way to handle Killpoints.
I'm pawning this to everyone Check out My 'Nids Tactica and give your Oppinion. I'm Desperate for Attention.
Yeah...what everyone else said.....
Why they moved away from the fantasy style victory points for KP's I really dont understand.
I guess its easier for an 8 year old to figure out, but come on.....it is arbitrary to the extreme... My one lictor is obviously the equal to your tooled up termie squad...what was I thinking!
And if you think we have it bad, go ask an IG player about KP's. If you are looking for one, he is the guy in the corner weeping until the new codex comes out....
