Hey all , i have been thinking about collecting an Ork army for sometime now but i'm slightly concerned that what i want isn't viable , i havnt read the army book and am just going on my own imagination of what i would enjoy fielding in an Ork army , with that said , would anyone be so kind as to steer me in the right direction in terms of;
a) is my army viable/legal (with adjustments)
b) i prefer to field a very theme orientated army as does most @ my local GW , but id like to have at least a fighting chance - does my idea have it(or if not what adjustments can i make)
I really would love to field an army thats always on the move , almost like a nomad horde , hun style etc , with an army mostly focused around bikes!! and defkoptas!! exhaust fumes everywhere hehe , id like to avoid using footsloggers if i had to take any they would at LEAST have to have a buggy or some transport.
So could i have some thoughts? can Orks make lists like these?
Speed Freeks are for you! An all biker army is totally legal and actually quite viable. You've got two types of bikers you can field as Troops: Normal Warbikes and Biker Nobs.
Warbikes are basic boys on bikes, relatively cheap and numerous. They won't hit as hard, but they have speed, lotsa dakka, and a PK Nob to back them up. Biker Nobs are super expensive but extremely resilient and probably the killiest unit in the whole Codex.
To take Warbikes as Troops, you'll need Wazdakka Gutsmek, the special biker character. As there's no model feel free to convert your own (a Big Mek riding a supah kunverted bike wif the biggest dakka cannons evah!). To take 1 unit of Biker Nobs as Troops you'll need a Warboss, who can also be put on a bike of his own.

I'm a speed freaks player all the way, although I'm not a fan of the all bike approach. Two units of nobz gets really expensive, and doesn't work well in 'capture the d3+2' objective missions. I'm also not crazy about wazdakka and the warbikes as troops, simply because the regular warbikes don't have too much close combat power (although they can work well as a shooty unit when supported by nobz and boyz).
I'd run 1-2 moderately sized units of nob bikes, supported by a few trukks of slugga boyz (all with powerklaws, bosspoles and rams), and with a single small unit of grotts, just for claiming objectives in my own deployment zone.
The bikes are already fast, so instead of loading up on deffkoptas (although one unit of 5 koptas with big shootas might be nice), I'd get some lootas. Units of 9-13 lootas provide great fire support for your bikes.
For the nobz, here's how I run them: 5-7 biker nobz with 2-3 powerklaws, painboy, cybork bodies, waughh banner, bosspole, and a warboss attached with a powerklaw and cybork. Now that's a powerful unit!
In any case, good luck with the speed freaks!
Thanks a ton for the answers! just what i was hoping to hear and more!
Holy cow, a fellow 'Max'!
Good luck, my well named friend. ^_^
