I have this idea about using one of the forgeworld Broadside models to make a special character. The idea is that it is an experimental suit, no jump packs like the Broadside since I assume they have been replaced with genorators. So it has increased power to do some things that I think would be kind of cool.
The basic reason I want to do this is cause it looks bad ass in my head but also I figure if a hammer head can use and Ion cannon why cant a Broadside, right.
Anyway you give it an Ion cannon, missle pod, and shield gen. It sounds kind of OP so it would be a commander and special issue. The next point is it would have a few special rules.
The first would be something like Re-allication of power (weapon): If the Unit did not move it may also forgo the use of the Shield gen till the end of the next tau player turn. If you choice to use this ability you may only fire one weapon but the amount of shots fire is increase by one, the str increased by one, and the AP decreased by one. The choosen weapon also suffers from the gets hot special rule and thus any roll of a one wounds the unit.
Re-allication of power (legs): If the unit forgos shooting and its shield gen, as stated above, the unit can run 2xd6 instead of the normal 1xd6.
Re-allication of power (shield): If the unit forgos shooting and Movement all power is sent to the shield gen granting a 2+ invun save and the unit gain the enternal warrior special rule and can not be insta killed.
Its just an idea and I figured I would share it cause I thought it was kinda cool. If you have a critiques or thoughts please feel free to respond.
Thanks in advance.
The idea for it being able to run should be dropped, it does not have a jetpack or any propulsion, not to mention it is handling a lot of weight. You would have to also forgo the secondary weapon. No one would give you that much of an advantage, especiallly if you wanted to allow him to redistribute power.
The special issue piece of equipment could be calleed a Power Flux Array, or a Flux Power Capacitor. And as equipment it would need to take up a hardpoint, since it would not be able to go under the HW category. But I do like the shield gen 2+ inv save idea, I'm not sure on the eternal warrior though, I would try switching it over to a feels no pain special rule instead. I think you'll have more success with that.
But the other stuff sounds cool.
I am also trying to put together and field a special unit. It would work the same as the Broadside, but it would have what I call a Super Seeker Missile Launcher. It would come with 2 Target locks, 1 Bust Cannon and of course the missile launcher. It would take after the Skyray as far as being able to network markerlight 2 different units in the shooting phase. It would also come standard with a ASS. To help with the wieght.
Im thinking about dropping the second weapon though, exchanging it for a sheild Gen.
The Super Seeker Missile Launcher would have a total of 10 Seeker Missiles.
The idea is neat, but I don't really think it would really work out.
A better idea would be to give Broadsides the old Alpha Hammerhead weapons (ie, LB Burst Cannons, Fusion Cannon, and Plasma Cannons.)
