Welcome to Librarium Online!
For my first Carnifix i modeled on an extra carapace with putty and alot of spare time on top of its already existing already existing carapace giving it Reinforced Chitin, Bonded Exoskeleotn and Ex Carapace. My question is that would he still be a better dakkafex then a CC meleefix with all three expensive biomorphs
Since i have a dakkatyrant and a Broodlord in my army i thought i needed a huge Baitfex instead of a huge dakka or sniperfex. I played a game against my brother with a beast sniperfex and it hardly killed anything until it got into CC with his dreadnaught
So I'm thinking...
Baitfex: RC,B-Exo, Ex Cara, Toxic Miasma, Adrenal Gl (WS) and Scything talons x2
Suggestions?... that dont involve me ripping the extra carapace off its back
If I'm going to upgrade the survivablity of a Carnifex, I usually go with the reinforced chitin upgrade, since it's not that expensive and it has great benefits. The +1 wound is really valuable.
I realize that the extended carapace helps against massed small arms fire, and likewise the bonded exoskeleton helps against lower-strength weapons, but both of these upgrades have no value against dedicated anti-tank weapons like lascannons or railguns. In these cases, the +1 toughness or armor save don't help, but the extra wound would. Plus, it's the cheapest of the three upgrades.
Very nice Fex, if you have the pts I'd suggest Tusked as well. 10pts for an extra attack on the charge, too good. And even more scary and bait-ier.
I don't think you should field a dakka fex unless it's an elite fex in my opinion.
Just my 2 cents.

Bonded exoskeleton is highly valuable, too many people go "won't help against lascannon/railgun" and give up on it, which is foolish IMO.
Bonded Exo makes it less likely for ALL WEAPONS S3, S5, S6, S7 and S8 to hurt you, while not affecting S4 and S9-10 weapons. S4 weapons are common, but S9/10 are NOT common at all ... most armies these days don't spam railguns or lascannons - they have some, but not a zillion.
What you DO still see a lot of to deal w/ fexes are things like Powerfists, plasma/combi-plas, melta weapons, lance weapons, etc., all of which are less likely to wound a T7 fex than a T6 fex, but all of which still ignore Armor 2+ as well as they do Armor 3+. RC --> BondEx --> ExCara IMO.
Fex killing weapons usually are AP1/2, so ExCara doesn't help you at all against them. Fex killing weapons alternately are massed small arms fire, and ExCara does help against those. If you are going to spend ANY points on upgrading an already-tough fex to be "more tough," get both.

I definately agree with MVBrandt's assessment regarding the value of bonded exoskeleton. My only issue with the upgrade is its points cost; reinforced chitin is much cheaper. Now, if you're making an uberfex then you'll probably tend to use both upgrades; I just prefer to keep my 'Fexes cheaper than that.RC --> BondEx --> ExCara IMO
why have one when you can have both
#1: Although you didnt mention it......magnetize your 'fexes (Public service Announcement)
#2: I have two fexes with that exact same conversion. I use them as my heavy fexes, which always have at least reinforced chitin. The great thing about that type of conversion is that since GW wasnt kind enough to supply us with standard bitz you can call it whatever you want at the beginning of the game. If am am running a heavy CC fex I let my opponent know that it counts as EC, RC, etc. If a Gun fex then its just RC.
For your Elite fexes, just have a few with the regular carapace.
And if you are really adverterous you can actually magnetize the carapaces (magnet on each side of the body, matching up to magnets on the bottom of the carapace). That way I can swap out a few of my fexes from regular carpace to spine banks. I suppose I could do up a spore cysts one, but who uses spore cysts......
