Ok, I went out and bought the Assault Brood and traded my Orcs from the starter box for another 32 Hormagaunts as well as some extra Ripper swarms...and I'm also trading some of my rippers for another 8 Hormagaunts. I've also purchased a Ravener.
So I'll have
16 Gaunts (Havent decided Spinegaunt or Termagaunt yet)
6 Warriors (Should I go CC or mixed?)
3 Carnifex's (I was thinking a decked out CC, and a Sniperfex for ranged support and vechicle control, the other...Magnets to either be another CC or Dakkafex depending on deployed army?)
I have a smaller 850pt Tau army but I'd like to fully plan this all out (Set-up, color scheme, magnets, etc) before I assemble anything. So I'd like any advice on how I should set my army up for CC as well as any advice on Tactics (I started 40k about 3 weeks ago)
Also, Winged Warriors? I can see the strength of highly mobile synapse but in my mind they're just sticking themselves out more...and since I don't have the money for a Hive Tyrant (hurray job serching >.<) I would need to draw as little attention to them as possible...
I've already looked through the forums for the last day and a half gathering info but I'd like more than just numbers and stuff, I wanna hear what works...what people use and how they do it.
I'd like to know all I should get, the set-ups that would be good, pretty much anything so any help is greatly appreciated!
From what I read I was planning on maybe a group of Zoalanthropes as a Heavy Support as well as a Brood of Lictors as an Elite choice...and a Ravener Brood as Fast Attack with maybe Warriors w/ wings and the last slot being The Red Terror....sound good?
Thanks in advance.

Well I just found Nikimaru's 2000 point list and that seems to fit the style I would like to play...but I'd also like to explore other options if at all possible...so any input would be greatly appreciated.
Always take 3 Raveners with devourerers
TIME MUST COME TO STEP UP AND TAKE BACK WHAT YOU TOOK FROM ME!!
That's just my tactic though, I think most players would recommend something else. But in general I think you'll just have to admit that hormies aren't great fodder units.
The rest of your list you can basically do whatever you want with... By "CC army" do you mean you want to have as little shooty units as possible? If so, then you're like me. Usually the only shooty units I have are sniperfexes and zoanthropes. Ranged anti-tank is crucial. Everything else is genestealer food.
Okay, I think I'm just rambling now... As for raveners and lictors, I don't think either are necessary at all, and are pretty hefty points-sinks for what they do. These units are only worthwile for certain players, using certain strategies in certain situations. For instance, I always take a single lictor in tournament lists, just to benefit from its pheromone trail (good for units stuck in reserve, and also cause I like deep striking bio acid spore mines). But when it comes to dishing it out on the battlefield, he's really just a Very expensive suicide unit. Raveners are much the same way.
So in conclusion, you just need to be careful that you don't sink too many points in biomorphs and special abilities - the strength of non-Zilla armies is in the numbers, which is our main source of durability. Especially if you're gearing for a cc-oriented army. It's a long way across the shooting gallery, and you need to keep your nids lean so there are enough of them left when you reach the enemy to rip their guts out.
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
A CC Nid army to me is actually more of a stealer shock list. Hormagaunts used to be really good under the old rules, but now...I just dont see it.
To make them in any way efficient you have to beef them up to the 14 or 15 pt range...and even then they struggle to do enough wounds to win combat.
And as our esteemed former president said above, you really cant just swarm them out due to the cost. I would have to concur that scuttling gaunts is a great sheild for them. But I think its worth pointing out that once you spend all those points....you may as well have just gotten genestealers......

Assault or ranged, you're going to need more synapse. Nothing worse then fielding 100+ models and not being able to do anything because your opponent took out your few synaptic creatures. I'd suggest putting a flyrant in there.
All right, thanks to everybody for your advice! I have an update on where my army stands now. So far I'm at:
1 Broodlord (Rending Claws, Scything Talons, Acid Maw, Extended Carapace, and Toxin Sacs)
1 Ravener (I equiped him with x2 Scything Talons and a Devourer)
2 Zoanthropes (Warp Blast only, should I take any more Powers with them?)
8 Warriors (How should I set them up for a CC list but don't have Wings for them? I was thinking going leaping so they'd have: Leaping, Extended Carapace, Both Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs, Scything Talons, and Rending Claws for a total cost of 43 pts each)
4 Carnifexs (I went 1 Ninjafex, 1 Sniperfex, 1 Fex built for my dream list (listed below), and then I have that was gifted and looks like crap. Hopefully I can write up a card for him detailing what I want him to have instead of what he DOES have.)
24 Genestealers (How should I run them? I have most set up
Now I have a dream list and a job, but I won't get this list for some time due to paying rent and other bills. How would you guys recomend playing with the Units I have now?
I would like to be CC focused with maybe the Ranged Guants providing moving cover for my Genestealers and Hormies. Does that sound good?
I could use the Leaping Warriors to try and keep up with my Hormies and give them Synapse and all, Scuttling with my Genestealers and Broodlord, with maybe my Sniperfex and Zoanthropes providings Ranged Support. Does this sound good? And what else would you suggest?
Now the 2000 pt. list I want is this:
Hive Tyrant w/ Winngs, Scything Talons, Rending Claws, Implant Attack, Warp Field, Adrenal Glands (+1 I), and Toxin Sacs
Broodlord* w/ Acid Maw, Extended Carapace, and Toxin Sacs
*5-Genestealer Retinue: Extended Carapace.
266 pts total
Warrior Group 1
43 pts each
Wings, Toxin Sacs, x2 Scything Talons, Symbiote Rippers, and Adrenal Glands (+1 I)
Warrior Group 2
45 pts each
Wings, Toxin Sacs, Scything Talons, Rending Claws, Symbiote Rippers, Adrenal Glands (+1 I)
-These warriors are run as groups of 3 with 1 warrior from Group 1 and two warriors from Group 2
total pts for each squad 133pts
Extended Carapace, Scuttle, and Feeder Tendrils
-The Genestealers are run in 2 groups of 12 units and 1 group of 10 units.
816 Points total or 24pts each unit
Toxin Sacs, Adrenal Glands (+1 I)
-Run as 3 groups of 10 units
390 pts total or 13 pts a unit
Barbed Strangler, Scything Talons, Bonded Exoskeleton, Extended Carapace, Reinforced Chitin, Tusked, Enhanced Senses, Spinebanks, Adrenal Glands (+1 I), and Toxic Miasma
-Run as only a big target to absorb shots
Total Points: 2040
Slightly over the 2000 Point limit but I don't know where to drop the points. Should I bring my Genestealers down to 3 Units of 10?
Now I found this list on this site and if I remember who came up with it/posted it I would give them props here (so sorry I didn't if you see this whoever you are!!!) and added some of my own modifications. However, I still need another 6 Warriors to attach wings to, the Hive Tyrant, 10 Genestealers, and another box to finish up my Hormaguants. Not to mention 7 sets of Wings for all the flyers I'll have...
The hard part is, I have no idea how to play this list and so far have yet to play my first game as Tyranids and only have 4 games under my belt as Tau. So if anybody has any advice or tips ono how to play this list they would be greatly appreciated!

Run the hive tyrant with 2x scything talons.
The rending claws wont benefit as much, you dont get +1 A for RC.
Consider dropping scuttlers from the genestealers and maybe 10 Hgaunts to run a squad of Tgaunts or Sgaunts with w/o number as a meat shield, then when they die they can hold objectives near your deployment zone.
Zoanthropes with synapse aand WB are useful too.
All right, well I made some modifications from my post. Some stuff didn't look quite right point wise and I realize that this is a 2000 point list. I added it all up and what I have posted is 2040 pts.
I agree with the 2xScything Talons on my Flyrant. That brings me up to 2044.
If I drop a unit of Hormagaunts that brings me down to 1914.
I have 8 Spinegaunts that I could add Without Number onto or sub in Termagants as well. Which would be perferable? If I go just Spinegaunt + Without Number the cost for the unit will be 64 points. 1978pts total.
So I still have 22 points to spend...should I instead choose 8 Termagants with Without Number and maybe Extended Carapace for a total of 80 points? That would bring me up to 1994 pts total and I think that the Termagants might have a slightly better chance of getting a kill over the Spinegaunts.
Either that or I could perhas add some Biomorphs onto my Flyrant. Maybe give it Warp Blast? I don't think that would be expected and it would help add some kills while it closes distance.
As for the Zoanthropes, I would love to include them! Maybe I could also make a second list from all the Units I have. Maybe go for a 1500 point list? I wouldn't mind an all round smaller list for smaller games.
I'll try writing up a list later tonight and post it later.
However, feel free to post your own ideas and stuff people! I could use all the help I could get as this will be my first, on my own list!

You will most certainly need feeder tendrils for your broodlord. You won't be disappointed with that.
I also prefer leaping warriors (if they're going CC) with extended carapace, just to keep them alive longer. Warriors without it will fall like ninepins to bolter fire.
I wouldn't run those hormagaunts in such small broods either. As a personal preference, I don't give my hormagaunts toxin sacs. I play the numbers game and just let their sheer number of attacks do the talking.
I'm also not convinced about your "dream" carnifex there. The only role you seem to have given him is as bait. I've never had time for units that serve as that (not even spinegaunts. I'm just loathe to throwing away good points). I'd suggest giving him one of three roles: sniper, dakka, or CC, with my own preference in that order.
Remember though, that this is YOUR list, so feel free to take no notice of me
