Welcome to Librarium Online!
Currently I've been reading the 'nids book and really liking the idea of a horde of
aliens /bugs sweeping my opponents however I do have a few questions on how to start
I was looking at the battle box (90$ ones) , I saw
3 Tyranid Warriors, 8 Hormagaunts, 1 Carnifex and some gaunts
does this include the bio-morph sprue for the gaunts?
or should i buy box per box and build on a as needed?
this looked like a cheap way to get 'fexes
I know i've seen alot of info on the hive tyrant so i know that will be a initial purchase.
also anyone know if the 180$ box is any better then the 90$ ones .
You might also look on Ebay for some good deals to bulk out your force. I found 2 very large lots comprising about 140 figures, including 8 Carnifexes/Tyrants for a very good deal. It was enough where all I need to do now if buy a couple of figures to round out the army.
as far as deals the 180$ box is a very good deal if your looking for a 1500 pt army outta the box, after everything is factored in the big box gives you the carnifexes for free (90$ value).
Believe there might be more than that on the free side of that deal but not much more.
The assault brood is probably the most rediculously good deal GW has ever given out. That plus about 2 hive tyrants and maybe another carnifex gives you an army you can put together and take directly to a tournament.
And if you look on ebay, etc you can get them for even cheaper than the $180 price tag. Sadly they are limited run, so get it while you can!

Welcome to the Hive Mind! I hope you have fun overrunning your foes under a carpet of scurrying horrors with your new army. =)
As suggested above the Assault Brood is an excellent way to start your army. I'd look for one of those from your local game store. Aside from that you can also get a basic (750ish) army out of a Battle Force box. You can even split the cost of a Battle for Macragge starter if you can find one with a Marine player and walk away with some Genestealers, Gaunts, and even terrain bits!
You'll also find these pieces commonly used in most armies. This isn't to say that the others are horrible, they are just really specific to a build and you'll want to start off with the basics first.
*Hive Tyrant (which can have up to three Guard so consider those as well, most run one or two though)
*Zoanthrope (you can have a max of three in your army so consider picking up that amount)
Play around with your big boxes-o-bugs accented by the units listed above and from there once you are comfortable with all the spikes, goo, and hooves these guys have you may want to try some fancier things with Gargoyles, Lictors, or if you go the Forge World route, Trygons, etc. Remember though that you will be getting Rippers for free. You'll see them molded onto the sprues of other units as a bit of a bonus, very nice!
Human beings, while exceptional in the ability to learn from the mistakes of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to...
I have to agree with Annoch. I spent quite a bit of time doing the math on what is in the boxes and what the options are. Found that the Assault Box is definitely the most cost effective. Actually its ridiculously good value. Battle box is fine and a very safe place to start.
Also strongly support MattyMorgs comments - its a good sold and safe way to build up your list.
