as I put togeather my lists in my other thread, I noticed that I'll be running a fair amount of Guardians. As such I was wondering what would be a good craftworld to theme my army?
Aliotic (rangers), Iyanden (wraithguard/lords), Biel-tan (heavy aspect), Ulthwe (seers and locks) and Saim-Hann (jetbikes) all don't seem to fit into a more Guardian theme. Allthough I guess any one of them could utilize many guardians in defensive settings.
I was tempted by Biel-Tan, but I go to University of Michigan and painting my many guardians like little Spartans would sear my soul, so that is out =( and since I'm not planning on fielding ANY ranger, Alaitoc which has my school colors would be super unfluffy and we CAN'T have that.
In light of these considerations, I've been considering Altansar, as they seem to have cool backround fluff, and not much is known of thier army composition. However if there is a craftworld I'm missing that would fit my general theme better, I would be much obliged
Of the main craftworlds Ulthwe is actually very guardian heavy. Beyond their psykers, they're known for their highly skilled Black Guardians who unlike most craftworlds are actually a standing army as opposed to militia. Unfortunately the rules don't really exist anymore to make Black Guardians standout the way they did in the old Craftworld Eldar dex, but in terms of matching your guardian heavy list Ulthwe would be a good fit.
Honestly, I would just go for whatever paint scheme you like the best. Seeing how there is no benefit to taking a craftworld army since we got our new codex. But if you are looking to be fluffy you could always go with an Ulthwae(sp?) army scheme since they have the black guardians and you mentioned having a lot of guardians.
Damn, posted mine just a second too late.
Essentially the concept of a "Craftworld" Eldar Army has become pure fluff these days.
With the new CODEX there are no alternate troop / elite etc. options depending on which Craftworld you take.
I used to like it and thought it gave the Eldar their own look and feel. But now its all lost to the fluff. Our Beil Tan army still goes to war as Biel Tan but its an ELDAR CODEX Army not a CRAFTWORLD ARMY and we cannot quite get the same mix of units we used to.
So build the army you like give it which ever Craftworld theme you want - you won't be disadvantaged by choosing "incorrectly" because you will be fielding an Eldar Army anyway.
