Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm getting around on fitting out my genestealer cult themed army and all models have been found... except for the carnifex!
I need massive MC in the army to handle heavy trucks that lictors can't budge and the only option I really have is a tooled up hth carnifex.
Problem is how to convert him in the genestealer cult theme!
The first idea would be of converting a WHFB giant as a hybrid-giant with carnifex bits: my modelling skills are quite good and it would probibally come out sweet... but extremely costly! >_<
Second option is the Damine 1427 model from the Inquisitor range
Considering the links of the cult with the imperial forces (gant equivalents will be modeled from cadian troopies) I think it would fit with the theme.
What do you guys think?

Why not -with the right paint job and maybe a slight mod to the feet/claw hooves...it should fit right in.
Have you considered looking into any Chaos Marine/Daemon models to mod off of? They already have the appearance of a "human"(ish) base that has been modified to appear altered in dark ways. It should be pretty easy "infesting" something like a Chaos Dreadnaught or beefing up an Obliterator. Maybe even a Daemon Prince would be good to work from!
Though in a funny side note we have an Imperial Guard player that has modified some Termagaunts by putting little "mind control" helmets on them to run them as Conscripts. It just goes to show that the Guard will recruit anybody these days.
Human beings, while exceptional in the ability to learn from the mistakes of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to...
I was thinking of putting together a GS cult army some time ago. I figure one could convert a sweet fex equivalent from a Penitent Engine - stick a mutated cultist on it, with loads of organs and gross tentacles and what-have-you spreading through the machinery...
but that inquisitor model is really sweet too!
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
For a cult army, I think it would fit in with some minor alterations. If it's a friendly game, why not?
The army is not intended only for friendly games... actually it will mostly be used in tournaments! ^_^
Models will be converted using 100% GW models and will be easily recogniseable so that no fuss should be made.
The old patriarch model will act as broodlord, while the actual broodlord model will act as a lictor (once this is explained it shouldn't pose any problems).
Imperial cadians will be converted to hybrids and used with gant rules.
Hybrid ogres will act as warriors and imperial psykers/cult maguses (depends if I find the original models) will act as zoanthropes (with appropriate bases and on a raised surface, so that even the height will be approximately the same).
And finally the inquisitor model will act as a hand to hand carnifex.
All models have roughly the same height-mass than their tyranid counterpart, so nobody can accuse me of cheesing out on the new real-life line of sight rule and the list is a perfectly legal 'nid list.

I see no problem with it then.
That looks interesting. I like the idea of Damien running about and he does resemble a Genestealer at least in his pose. There used to be a Genestealer model for Inquisitor. I don't think they sell it any more but it was basically a giant Genestealer in 40K terms. I imagine that could help you with some options. You could try your luck on ebay for it.
You could use a Balrog for it. I have seen a few conversions that have used the body (having used the wings for a Flyrant) and it looks like a less armored more agile Carnifex. You just need to remove the head and arms in favor of more Niddy ones.
There are a couple of other alternatives if you feel comfortable with greenstuff that would also be very impressive. Primarily, in order to further the feel of the "cult" aspects I would suggest a dreadnaught or sentinel greenstuffed to have nid parts growing out of it (similar to how many people do chaos dreads). I think that, while the other model you showed is much more athletic, I think that the bulkier dread would look better for an armoured shootier carnifex. It will take a good deal more work with GS, but I think it would look really awesome and showcase just how invasive and dangerous stealer cults can be.
