Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm torn between purchasing three vypers or three war walkers. I'm leaning towards the walkers because they have double the firepower, are easier to guide (effectively triple the firepower), and are less fragile (though minimally). Is the vyper's maneuverability worth it? I'd like to know what everyone else think!
No the movement from the vypers is not really worth losing half your fire power. Go with your gut and get teh warwalkers...a common set up is having them all with scatterlasers...giving you 24 shots from the unit...better than a vyper whose cheapest option with two weapons is dual shuri cannons, with 24 inch range a unit only puts out 18 shots and is more vulnerable to return fire.
Go the walkers...
What does the rest of your army look like?
If it is mostly infantry and footslogging units, then the Walkers are probably the best bet. If you have a lot of transports and fast units, then the Vypers might be better. The Vyper is great for escorting Wave Serpents and annoying the opponent. They can also be great for a last turn grab of an objective. The Walkers are much better at fire support in a less mobile force.

In general I'd say go with the walkers as they are cheaper for more firepower. If you play a samm hain army vypers fit fluff wise wonderfully and as stated before in a highly mobile army the extra points for the speed can be worth the cost.

As dahli.llama and nakaruru said it depends on the kind of army you have or that you want to have. If you want a fast and mobile support, take the Vyper. If you want firepower and anti-troop go for the War Walkers with two Scatter Lasers that gives a eight shots at a distance of 36" which is necessary due to their fragile nature.
Personally, I have a preference for the War Walker squadron.
vypers are a fast attack choice but can be fitted as a very useful tank hunting unit. This can allow you to use your heavy support choices for fire prisms, falcons, reapers or wraithlords which i prefer taking instead of war walkers.
yeah, that is a very prime point, six. u have to consider that they are in different categories, so right off the bat, it's a difficult judgement call. sure, i would say walkers, for the reasons already stated, but if you have taken up your heavy slots with other units that are possibly more effective (prizms, falcons for ferrying etc....) then the vyper may be your next best friend. also, putting an EML on them while upgrading to the cannon gives you some options. you can either hunt tanks/multi-wound units with krak, or shoot some infantry with the plasma and the add in 3 more str 6 shots from the cannon. i think that the answer to this question is not as easy as it is made out to be. u need to post up your preferred list, what you have, and your intentions for your units in order to receive the best answer possible. Normally, as people have pointed out, we need to see a list to say which is really better. However, Vypers and War Walkers have vastly different rolls. War walkers are hard hitting machines of uber death. Their range is their only defense. Vypers are just as fragile but are generally not as hard hitting and not as long range (because, if you're paying for the speed you might as well use it). If you have a heavy slot open in your list, I'd recommend the war walkers, if you don't, then I'd recommend something other than vypers.
Everything I have told you, even this, is a lie.
this is true. warp spiders are a really good option, however, you can get something like a vyper for less than a squad of spiders, and have a little bit more maneuverability and AT. at WS3 this is not guaranteed AT, but at least u have the option. also, u can pump a vyper up with upgrades too. while most of the time, vypers are considered expendable vehicles used for the purpose of flanking and sniping the occasional tank or HQ unit that is left to his lonesome, u can make them less fragile. for 110 pts, you can pimp your vyper with a EML, shuriken cannon and holo-fields and at 75 points for an EML and cannon. this is really a good discussion, and it all comes down to tactics. as pointed out, both are fairly equal in cost however both are used for FAR different reasons. that is why, in my oppinion, without knowing the list and conceptual backround of said list, it is extremely hard to come to an arbitrary conclusion of this one is better than that one.
