OK, I'm not following here. Are you asking for an army list, or painting advise. What?

--- Quite frankly, we need more information than this... But I'll see what I can do, which is not much.

    1. Most important, get the Codex. Right now is a bad time for buying the third edition one, since Tyranids will be the second race to get their Codex redone for fourth edition, right after Space Marines. If You want to play Tyranids right away, then buy the 3rdEd Codex cheaply second-hand or borrow a friends Codex.

    2. Read the Codex thoroughly for a couple of times. Anything seems confusing, ask us. Do not forget the Chapter Approved online FAQs! Bottom page, PDF-format.

    3. Once You have a grasp of the units and what they do, make a preliminary list and post it here in the "Army Lists" section for feedback. Modify the list accordingly, post it again, modify for feedback, continue until You reach a list You feel comfortable playing with.

    4. After You have set Your list, start assembling any models You might have acquired.

    Welcome to the Tyranid Swarm!

that depends on the way you want them to look, quite a lot of Nid players take their inspiration from movies like "Alien" or "Starshiptroopers"

there are also some nice examples in the codex on how to paint them

If you are going to collect tyranids and first get the codex like Uzi says its a bad time because soon there should be a new one.... then Id advise that you should first buy the battle force box set, Its a great bargain! (for GW that is  ) and get your self a Hive tyrant... from there you should have a fairly decent army which you can then expand upon by getting more troops and heavy support etc....

    Good Luck with the tyranids!

Also I wouldnt assaemble your models just yet, most people on here are very experienced nid players and we should all (veteran or n00b) be able to give you help advise...

As for painting, do whatever you want. With Nids, there is no limit. You can paint them pink and brown, as yellow and blue, or silver and green, or black and white, etc... Do whatever you want, most color schemes do look good anyways.
