Welcome to Librarium Online!
I just bought an Eldar Battalion set to have as a foundation for my Eldar army. I intend to buy a Farseer and Warlocks as well (to use the Warlocks in the Guardian and Dire Avenger squads that come with the Battalion) but my real question is what wargear to give to the various forces.
What you get from the set is a squad of Guardians with a Weapons Platform - What platform weapon should I give them?
The Dire Avengers don't leave much to the imagination, but what about the Exarch? Should he have a Power Weapon and Shimmershield, go Shuriken-Akimbo, or Diresword?
The big deal is the War Walker and the Wave Serpent. I'm thinking of giving the War Walker some Anti-tank capability while leaving the Wave Serpent as a close-range support against heavier infantry to cover my Dire Avengers, but I'm uncertain if it's better the other way around, or any other kind of configuration?
What's your advice?
I'm struggling with this too,
I would suggest giving the exarch the second catapult, remember they are there to shoot.
As for the heavy weapons... I've no idea. If you're going to just glue one down I would suggest kitting yourself for your regular opponents (starcannon vs. SMurfs or anything else with a 3+ save... though an EML might be good as well).
What I am going to try to do is make these weapon mounts somewhat modular. Either adding magnets to the weapon base and the weapon, or a pin and socket between them. This will allow for me to switch out weapons on the fly for whatever opponent I'm facing.
As We Are Legion said, the weapons from the Gardians' Heavy Weapon Platform are easily swappable. Even without adding magnets or a pin they can fit (not the best but still work) so you can try what suits you the best. Although, since Gardians have low BS, it is better to get weapon with more then one shoot so it can fire often enough. Scatter Laser is a great option since it is not expansive and give you lot of high strength shoots at a nice range. Starcannon is also useful is you face the SMurfs.
For the DAs' Exarch it depends on what you want to do with them. If you intend shooting, having the twin shuriken catapult can help out alot. On the other hand, the Shimmershield is great against the SMurfs' Heavy Bolter, protecting your troop.
Then for the Wave Serpent and War Walker I would rather put the anti-tank on the Wave Serpent since it is Twin-linked, bright lance seems to be a good choice. You can also put it on the Walker but again it has low BS so it is more efficient with Scatter lasers or Starcannons.
Because of how the Heavy Weapons for the Platform and War Walker are designed (same design so they're interchangeable all of them. You can even make a War Walker have dual of the same weapon!) switching them should be kind of easy. I just feel that would be silly. But we shall see.
I would agree with Toeknee on alot of that stuff. For the low BS units (guardians/walkers) use weapons with a high number of shots to mitigate their low BS. Scatter laser is my choice for both of those units.
For the serpent, because it's twin-linked your one-shot tankbusters will perform more reliably. I *love* the eldar missile launcher at anything below 1000 pts (not likely to see many land raiders at that point level), and bright lance on anything over 1000 pts.
Someone asked a similar question on the army lists thread here. There's a more in-depth description of my thoughts there.

So I've finished constructing the War Walker and equipped him with dual Scatter Lasers for the simple reason of "Moar Dakka".
I've thought of taking the twin-linked Brightlance for the Wave Serpent. It will somewhat mimic my Space Marine Predator's twin-linked Lascannon, which has proven itself the most reliable and devastating piece of my entire Marine Chapter time and time again. Not bad for something that can still transport a full squad!
I'm going with We Are Legion's advice on the Exarch since dual-wielding is badass.
The Guardians are the only ones I'm not too sure about. Plasma (Starcannon) sounds like a good pick, but I'm partial to getting the Missile Launcher instead. I've run out of Scatter Lasers putting both on the Walker.
For the Platform Starcannon will give you more "sure shoot" kills and will always work about the same (except it is at is maximum efficiency against the Space Marines), the Eldar Missile Launcher is more versatile, it can deal with heavy armor and swarms with the blast being more effective against theses then the Starcannon.
So, I think you should chose depending on your main opponents, if you face a lot of Space Marines (or Space Marines like (Necrons, WH ...) you might want to pick up Starcannon. If you face swarm armies take the Eldar Missile Launcher, cause Starcannon won't kill enough anyway.
As has been mentioned before in several threads, scatter lasers can be better than star cannons, simply because of all the 4+ cover that is now available. Now... don't forget, that star cannons force the MEQs (Marine Equivalents) to use the 4+ cover save rather than the 3+ armor save, but I'd rather have 4 str 6 shots at 3+ save than 2 str 6 shots at 4+ save. The guardians have the advantage of being able to move 6 inches and then fire, so it's possible that you can have a better chance at a clear shot with your star cannon, which would then possibly make it better... especially if you are guiding your guardians (if your war walker happens to not be in range, and the farseer is with the guardians).
I've always wondered if guardians with a brightlance and a guiding farseer would be worthwhile. They would have decent range to the vehicles, and as most other vehicles are AT they would have a hard time taking out the guardian squad (especially if it also has a warlock with embolden).
Oh ya, also the WS with TL EML and Shuri-Cannon is a very effective vehicle.

Hey and grats on selecting the Eldar Battalion. I like what i've heard so far, and I would like to insert my comments.
As for the guardians... I would highly recommend taking something with a higher volume of shots with this squad. As mentioned earlier they have a relatively low BS, and therefore suffer when using weapons with low shot amounts. I would say go for either a shuriken cannon or scatter laser with them. Using a Farseer's guide power on them would be a little bit of a waste. The farseer should really be riding with the Dire Avengers and Dooming their targets/Guiding them.
A WW at below 1000pts. is interesting. It offers alot to a smart commander. I would say that the dual scatter lasers are a good choice for it. Again at below 1000pts. you aren't going to see much armour coming your way, and 8 Str. 6 shots will take care of most light armour.
I like the Dire Avengers... one thing to bring up is that they can't take a warlock with them. This rule is ofter over looked, Dire Avengers may recieve a 5+ invul. save ONLY WHEN IN CLOSE COMBAT. The ruling down at the bottom of the description of the power and hard to spot.On the other hand, the Shimmershield is great against the SMurfs' Heavy Bolter, protecting your troop.
Good Luck getting your list together and don't get frustrated if you lose one or two games in the beggining... the eldar are hard to master and I know I lost before I won.
Do I know you?!?!?!?!?
I'm finished equipping the set now.
As previously mentioned, the War Walker has dual Scatter-Lasers, and I put a Twin-Linked Brightlance on the Wave Serpent (after I realised that Lance reduces 13-14 Armour Values to 12, I just had to have it) and a Shuriken Cannon on the belly for groups of infantry.
I gave the Dire Avenger Exarch dual-wielding Shuriken Catapults since that's both badass and since their only real purpose is to take down large groups of lighter infantry.
I decided to go with the Starcannon for the Guardian squad, since my main enemies are Tyranids (Tyranid Warriors a-plenty) and Space Marines (obvious). It has two shots anyway so the low BS isn't going to kill me.
Thanks for all the advice, though!
