I am a big fan of the winged tyrant w/ 2x ST's, warp blast and all biomorphs. I am trying to find a setup for my second which I will use for games of 1850 and above. I dont want to include a second winged tyrant as above for sportmanship reasons. Which of the two above do you feel is the better choice. Assume both are walking and have all the same statistical biomorphs.
Same thing as you flinger, 2x Scything Talons and Warp Blast...he just pwns
Eeek! Well, assuming that the second Tyrant would have wings, I would go for that. If you want a fun/fair game, the second one is a much better choice.
But seeing that you would want a fun game, the VC with ST is the way to go. But you NEED guards. Also the +1 BS is also a must. If I had to chose, I would go with this one.
I'm also a big fan of the 2 ST's and Warp Blast. The warp blast is great cause it gives range without taking away from the beasts CC capabilities.
When a totally tooled up for CC Hive Tyrant steps into most combats (not all) then things start to die quickly.
usually I kit my HT for character hunting, and 2 pair of ST and wings coupled with WB and a nice BS4 usually does the tricks nice
Personally I believe that all walking tyrants should have a VC. There just not fast enough to truly be pure cc tmcs. So there going to need some way to reach out and touch some one, and though warp blast is great its range is to limited for a slow moving laser cannon magnets like the tyrant. Think about it this way, with the warp blast and 2 st's you get up too one ranged attack and 4 cc attacks for a total of 5 attacks per turn. With the VC you get up too 2 range attacks and 3 cc attacks per turn still 5 attacks and because of the range you have a much better chance of getting your VC attacks then your warp blast on a walking tyrant. I know the VC can only glance a vehicle but that all you really need to silence its heavy weapons so that your slower nids can advance in relative safety.

I agree with B_L_Z_BUB,
for walking tyrants: VC, ST and guards
for winged Tyrants 2x ST, warp blast and alone

I've been playing nids from 1st ed on. I've seen a lot of changes come and go. (Does anyone remember when genestealers had 2 wounds and 4 attacks as standard or a carnifex could regenerate wounds.) Taking into account that nid armies are a close combat force with some shooty models. Scything talons and a venom cannon offers many more tactical options to a tyrant with or without wings. In specialized rolls I can see 2 scythings and warp-blast being better. Give me scything talons and a venom cannon any day!
For walking Tyrants, ScyT + VCannon is usually the way to go.
However, I've fielded 2x ScyT, WBlast walkers for good effect in relatively small point games (750-1000pts).
And with wings, no doubt about it, 2x ScyT, WB is the only viable choice for me! For a winged Tyrant I see no point in taking a VCannon:
1. VCannon is expensive. Once You get to CC, it's useless points.
2. VC takes a Bioweapon slot. With a winged Tyrant I much rather take the WB to allow for full CC attacks.
3. A winged Tyrant is fast enough not to need the range of the VCannon, while being able to use WBlast to it's full effectiveness... Able to actually destroy vehicles with the focused WBlast and slaughter SM wholesale with the unfocused one, sounds good to me.
Guards only come into question once I reach 1500pts... And I usually take them even for winged Tyrants. After all, I usually have a Carnifex which will greatly benefit from the Guards the Tyrant leaves behind.

or wait a few months and use dual vcannons and guard
I think a great bumper sticker would be as follows:
