Has anyone used an alternative model to represent their avatar or converted the existing model, I'm asking as I want to use an avatar but I really don't like the model and I can't afford the Forge World one..
Thanks to those who reply..
I'm Useless :D
i have seen the encron deceiver used fairly effectively as a harlequin avatar, but now hat i think about it, with the right paint job the nightbringer would be pretty cool. just gotta do some converting on the weapon and remove the scarabs at the bottom.
When in doubt, more Bloodcrushers
I'm thinking a Wraithlord with a different head (and some bitz added to the body to make it look more humanoid, though I can't honestly think of anything off the top of my head) could do the trick, although if I recall right it would be kind of... Big, wouldn't it?
It would suit nicely to give an army a very unconventional appearance (I've specified that my DYI Craftworld doesn't even have a Shrine of Khaine, so a Wraithlord would be pretty cool) in any regard, and I'm all for that.
Here you have a photo of a Laughing God Avatar made with the C'tan Nightbringer from Games Workshop website :

Pretty well done
I've converted the original Avatar miniature and there's a reasonable number of WIP pictures on my website - http://www.arhicks.co.uk/gallery/gw/gw_image_avatar.php. Not a conversion for the faint-hearted though
I love your Avatar chandrila! Are there any more pictures of it painted or is that as far as you have got so far?...
Folllowing up on my previous post, I have to ask if anyone could tell me just how big the size difference is between the Avatar and the Wraithlord? I checked the GW site but it doesn't specify the size of the models.
Nicely done on the Avatar.
Have some rep...
5000p. High Elves
In 3rd edition I was playing an Alaitoc force with a lot of Rangers, and had started to work up the Inquisitor ranger as my avatar, even though it was just for scenery and not in the army.
Stopped when I couldn't find the hooded head for the model.
Poor SM players, used to S4 T4 3+ saves that forget 40K is a sophisticated Rock-Paper-Scissors game and all they have is a pocket full of rocks.
