Welcome to Librarium Online!
YES! - Of course it is you beardy cheesmonger!
NO! - You can never have enough Monoliths!
PERHAPS? - (Please post your reasoning below)
I now have three monoliths in my collection, I bought the third with plans for making use of the Apocalypse Monolith formation.
I have a feeling that under 4th Ed rules, many players would have considered three monoliths in a non-apocalypse game (say 2000pts for arguments sake) to be somewhat redolent of cheddar.
There is another portion of my brain which thinks that aroma aside, that many points might be too many to tie up in non-Necron units in a game of any size, and would leave me with too low a phase out number.
However, given the general nerfing which has afflicted us Necron players in 5th Ed, what do you good folks now think about a list built around 3 monoliths, a lord and a chunk of regular troops?
I have too many armies to list in my signature!
Well if you're going to be using a massed warrior list, with a couple orb lords. I don't feel having three monoliths would be detrimental between 2k and 3k. Considering you'd be able to field around 56 warriors with the leftover points I don't see a chance of any army phasing you out.
However on the OTHER hand I think putting all your eggs in one basket like that could be VERY dangerous, especially if you face armies that can put your monoliths down with a shot or two from their big guns (IG, Tau, Eldar come to mind) and it leaves your army with only one thing, being TOUGH, but not having much damage output outside of 12" or CC prowess.
Not gonna say it's a bad idea, just kinda unoriginal and frankly, starting to teeter on the cheesy side.
Let it be noted that cheese is DELICIOUS! But doesn't stay very well when left out in the open.
3 'liths are beardier than a drunken dwarf. The only time three should be used is in appoc. However, in normal games, friendly or tourney, you should never use more than 2.
Why? They use up way too many points. Yes, 3 'liths will wreak havoc, but they will have next to no army to back up. 1500 points should be the minimum point level to use two 'liths and be consistantly successfull.
I think it's a bit much. I personally don't think all the heavy slots should be taken up by one unit. Better to swap out for some tomb spyders or heavy destroyers. Any more than two is overkill, and even two is a lot. I say, unless you have some cunning strategy that simply won't work with only one, stick with only one. It's nigh indestructible as it is, and as mighty as they are, there are only so many things they can do in one turn anyway. For the points, there are much more versatile choices.
3 monoliths is heavy and should be held off for high point games and apoc
2 should be the standard
I think it depends on who you are playing, but on the most part I agree that it is a bit OTT. I only have one, and although I havn't used it yet, I've seen my friends 'liths get destroyed before doing anything, and for the points value it is a big loss. I'd say take 1, 2 max and stick to troops to increase your time on the board!
ALWAYS take 3 monoliths, makes it so much easier for us guard to win
