I went through my gaming closet recently and came out with a bunch of IG I picked up last summer at a convention for a song, so I posted it to a trading forum. I've been offered a nicely painted 'nid army of only a bit less value, and wanted your opinions as to whether or not it's a viable army or not, since I have no experience playing tyranids. Really, I'm leaning towards them as my second army anyway, because they're just cool, but please let me know if an actually useful list can be made from this. Thanks in advance.
Hive Tyrant magnetized
Winged hive tyrant converted with Balrog withs, magnetized for weapon options
3 Tyrant Guard
5 Warriors magnetized
8 Genestealers with scything talons
6 Genestealers with rending claws
24 Ripper Swarms
6 Winged Warriors (forgeworld wings, rending claws and scything talons)
2 Carnifexes fully magnetized
You sure can!
You are a little light on gaunts, but a few boxes (or ebay/trade/whatever) and you are in business.
Get it and play a few games and you will then be able to decide whether you want to go with more a more stabby army and maybe beef up on the genestealers or more of a nidzilla where you may want some more 'fexes.
I wish I had started with that much stuff....
Hive Flee Annoch
Once the game is over, the king and the pawn go back in the same box. -Italian Proverb
Seems like a decent list. He's got way more ripper swarms, winged warriors & ravenors than I'd ever field. Otherwise, it's pretty solid/competitive and it's good that the HT & carnie's are magnetized.
Cool, good to know.
I figured that I'd start with this and play a few games, get used to the 'nid codex, and then maybe pick up an Assault Brood box, which'll give me more bodies in all the right places.
And yeah, for all the IG I'm trading, the 'nids still come in under-value, but that's not counting the paint job on the 'nids, so I think it may be worth it.
Thanks for the info, anyway.
Nice deal, man!
I've been thinking about 'Nids myself. I don't know much about what they do, but I like the overall look of them. I have Ork currently.
Just curious. Do you mind telling me how much that army is worth and how much you were trading (in Value) for it?

I didn't include any "bulk" discounts for either value, like you would get from buying the battle forces or the apocalypse splash items, so those are straight-up retail values.
Of course, the guard were NIB through painted, condition-wise, while the 'nids are all painted rather nicely. In the end, the difference in value was worth the difference in condition for me.
If I like playing 'nids, I'll pick up the assault brood box for more, well more of all the right stuff.
And in the end, I remember the fact that I only paid $100 for the IG anyway, so really, that what I'm trading for the 'nids. If I don't like them, I'm absolutely sure I can get 3-5 times my initiial investment back on eBay.
