My main opponent plays the necrons, and my main problem is the necrons. I really need some help beating them, anyone got some any favorite tactics versus them.
Well first off, what type of army does your necron opponent field, and what kind of army do you field/units do you have available to you?
He plays 9 destroyers, 1 monolith, 1 deciever, 1 necron lord, a few immortals about 6. 3 squads of warriors in are big battles.
I pretty much have maxed out units except for Wraithgaurds, phoenix lords, or vypers to my disposal
Well, Wraithguards are the ideal Anti-Necron units, so you really ought to get a bunch of them (With Spiritseers, of course)!
I also emphasize the use of the "big gun" version of the Wraith-Cannons, the D-Cannon. A full 3-gun battery of D-Cannons can pretty much remove an entire squad in one shooting phase.
Dark Reapers with their lovely AP3 weapons make short work of MEQ troops, and since he's playing the 'Crons you could just try devastating his Warriors and "lighter" (for the Necrons) units so as to beat him by Phase Out.
I don't know the Necrons are in Close Combat, but I get the feeling that Howling Banshees would be the best pick if you want to tear them down fast.
It looks to me like he's loaded up on expensive junk, it should be easy to go for a phase out. Just ignore the deceiver and the Monolith as best you can and focus on his Necrons units. Reapers are an excellent choice, particularly with a tempest launcher you could wipe out an entire squad of warriors a round. Banshees backed up by doom should also fair very well against warriors, with their power weapons allowing you to ignore WBB. Wraithguard weapons would be effective, but I think they're too slow and still vulnerablel to gauss fire or a well-placed particle whip.
Alright thanks guys, I'll see if I can finally beat him the friday (=
Shoot. I haven't read the cron codex in a while so I don't remember the deciever.
He is vulnerable to phase out though. And wraithguard. Taking out the monolith doesn't help with phase out, but if he's smart he can avoid phase out by putting his tough units out in front and using the lords teleport-around-the-board ability and the monoliths teleport to keep enough necrons alive.
In general the necrons aren't so hot in CC (deciever may be an exception). Lacking both high strenght and power weapons in general.
Nah, deciever isn't great in CC.
What he's probably doing to you is the bread and butter necron tactic of marching everything up with the monolith, all the warriors in range of the lord with an orb, and just strafing with the destroyers.
First and foremost, take out the lord, that way he wont get the benifit of the res orb.
OR you can charge in and deal with his warriors, get them in CC and its over for them, you'll be safe from getting fired on, and they have an initiative of 2, so you'll sweeping advance them almost every time, unless you're rolling pure crap.
You'll phase him out in no time.
Yes, I did deep-strike your sister...
Necrons : W-8 D-3 L-7 (Sleeping in their TombFoam, waiting for a new codex)
Chaos Forces (CSM/CD): W-42 D-19 L-28
Apocalypse Games : W-4 D-0 L-1 (4 Titans, Brass Scorp, 3 Baneblades, 2 Bombers, 3 Fighters, and a Partrage in a Pear Tree)
Anyway something else to consider is that if they're hanging near the lith the main body of his force isn't very long ranged. If you don't have a lot of CC units to dive in with you might be able to snipe him with mobile mechanized units. Dual fire prisms might be good in this roll.
I havnt played a friend of mine yet, but he plays cheese crons. 2 monoliths that deep strike, 2 lords and destroyer body, res orb, and phlact, and the rest big blocks of worriers. You cant take these down becuase of the lord with orb is always near by and he gets re rolls with the monolith, the he guazz fluz arcs everything
I would have a problem with this army, but if i knew iw as going up agianst it, i would hate to cheese out with d cannons and wraith guard. but i could. Reapers are one of the better options, and wraithlords can give them a problem in combat, and even take out the liths.
