So Ive been lurking around a lot of tau forums lately (Tau Online, ATT, And here) and picked up the codex, as I'm moving away from my chaos towards tau. I know that CC is the most dreaded thing to a tau army and Ive been looking at some things to help me out. One of these is the Piranha, this unit is very squishy but also fast and can carry quite a punch. When equipped with flechette's in a small squadron they make assaulting them a grim prospect. With their speed they can put them themselves in the way of an assaulting unit and save our now oh so precious troops.
That is if how Im reading the rules is the right way to read them. Squadrons are now considered to be like infantry units when in assault so if you assault one in the squadron you assault them all so wouldnt all of them fire their flechettes hitting the assaulting squad x times wounding all on 4+'s? A few forums people are arguing this that no they don't but at the same time one unit attacking the squadron in close combat can hit and roll for penetration on the entire squadron to me this is ridiculous.
Change is good
as i understand it the FD on work for the vehicle that is being assaulted. when firing at a unit of them it work just like firing at a normal unit. as in you can alpocate where the wounds go. let say you have 3 of them the unit takes 4 hit 2 glancing and 2 pens one of the can take both pen and you can put the glancings on the others
If you read the last few pages the subject is covered there, hope that helps.
So like I thought assaulting a squadron of Piranha's is close to suicide.
