Im thinking about starting orks. And I was wondering what was the best to start with and some basic strategies. Is black reach the best way to start?
I would get at least 2x Blackreach sets if you can afford to. If not, try to get a friend who would be willing to split the cost and keep the Marines. Otherwise, you can sell all the leftover Marine stuff on Ebay.
After you get the BlackReach set, I would play a few 500pts games so you can get familiar with the rules and pick up the Ork Codex. Once you find some units you think you might like to invest in, try them out first. What I do is substitute or "proxy" one unit for another. (for instance, the boys with Big Shootas could be Lootas, paint some boyz with Camo pants and you've got Kommandos). After all that is said and done, you can try to find someone's collection for sale, and see if you can get a good deal!!
As for Advice in playing Orks. well...you should probably learn the rules first, but you'll always want lots of Boyz and PowerKlaws.
Ive played 40k for a long time I'm just not familiar with orks.
"...a swarm of mechanised locusts sweeping over the land, stripping it bare of resources, bringing death and destruction to anything that stands in its path. Emperor preserve us against the predations of these so-called Orkish cults of speed!" - Cardinal Nomura at the Conclave of Hessen
Any more help would be greatly appreciated.
AoBR is a great start. Pick it up, try things out and get a feel for the game and the army.
For now, boyz before toys is a good mantra. It pays to have plenty of boyz in the your army to keep the PKs around longer and to have more scoring bodies.

Try AoBR and the Ork battleforce. That will give you a Warboss and five nobz in a trukk, two mobs of boyz (20 each and you can make one shootas), three koptas and three bikes. That should be a good start on an ork army and give you some units that you'll use a lot.
