Welcome to Librarium Online!
So I’m getting a Hammerhead Gunship and I don't know what main weapon to place on it.
Either Ion-Cannon or a railgun. One is stronger in Strength and AP so what would the advantage be to having the Ion cannon (IDK).??? Plus I usually play Imperial Guard, and a friend(aka iCON) of mine who is Imperial Guard is always Bragging about how strong his Demolisher is so I need to get some pay back what is my best option??
Hi Big G, Get the Rail Gun. You can take out his Leman Russ with the Solid Shot quite easily or you can put extreme pain on his Guardsman with the Submunition Template. The Ion Cannon is mainly used to take out MEQ's (Space Marines, Necrons, Chaos Marines)
Don't fear his silly Demolisher Cannon. It only has a 24" range, Railguns massively outrange it. Just make sure you fire warriors are in cover.
First off i suggest buying a skyray, it gives you everything to make a hammerhead and gives you everything to make a skyray which includes another turret which you can either make a skyray turret or glue on the ion cannon. Thus giving you 2 turrets for either ion cannon and railgun. Also you can magnetize the burst cannons and SMS.
My upcoming blog in the works:
Its quite overlooked what a multi-purpose weapon the Hammerhead Railgun can be. After you've used the solid shot to knock down a few tanks, the Sub-munition makes for a great anti-troop weapon.

Both! I prefer the Railgun myself, but if you don't glue it on (as well as play aroud a little to keep it from flopping over) you could easily switch to an Ion Cannon when necessary.
(I'm not too keen on going the more extreme route by having a skyray able to turn into a hammerhead, chances are I'd actually want that skyray handy when I get it, as well as have plenty of cheap hammerheads from ebay...)
O ok ,I like the idea of not gluing it to the model just in case I need to change.
Backing up psichotykwyrm's advice on your purchase; get the Sky Ray. Same cost as Hammerhead but all variants are available in the box.
Ref Pixie's advice about no glue: Pinning the two big guns is a very advisable thing to do. It allows you to alternate between anti-MEq shots from the Ion Cannon and anti-GEq/Horde/anti-tank of the Railgun. If you do buy the Sky Ray version, you will have access to all three vehicle types - Devilfish, Hammerhead and Sky Ray - so don't glue any turrets.

If I get a Sky Ray I get the ion cannon and Rail Gun with it??

Yes, the Sky Ray box comes with parts to make a sky ray turret, and an ion cannon/railgun turret, which if you dont glue it can be switched easily.
yep skyray is the way to go if you have alittle skill with pinning and whatnot.
