Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi, i've been looking at Tau for a while now. I was wondering if the battlesuits that are avalabile from Forge World are eligible in normal 40k games?
The link is below :
Forge World TAU BATTLESUITS AND DRONES
i'd say for the battlesuits yes cause most are just new versions of what you can already have, kinda like converting the army to look different. the technical drone could be used to represent shield drones but the heavy gun drones or the stealth fighter ones cant be used unless apoc, or you opponement allows you to use them since they use apoc rules.
So you can't really modify what weapons are on the forgeworld models?
I'm fairly sure you can change out weapons, depending on which suit you buy I suppose. I only have one (Shas'o R'myr, or however he spells his name) but as I recall, he came with much if not all of the standard (i.e. GW) Crisis Suit sprue.
(I should note R'myr isn't really all that flexible in terms of weapons options, though. Unless you want to convert him a bit, you generally are fixed with his weapons options. But an arm swap fixes that fairly easily.)
So you get all the usual weapons, and I believe they mount to the model in much the same manner as they normally do. A little different, perhaps; they seem (from the pictures) to slot in rather than using the peg-socket arrangement, but I'm fairly sure weapons are interchangeable.
I guess I should also say that, while there are rules for the Forgeworld suits, there is nothing stopping you from playing it as a standard (although arguably prettier) version of the normal XV8. Yes, you can use them in normal games, provided your opponent doesn't mind and you let them know it will be acting as a standard suit.
My friend has a tau army and he has a mixture between Forge World and Regular Crisis Suits.
IMHO GW wanted to make the crisis suits poses static as possible. the forge world models, heads, arms, feet and weapons look better and helluva more pose able then the regular GW Models. He suggested using the body chassis of the crisis suit and using everything else from forge world, if you want to pose your model better.
I think as long as the model isn't 50% or more then what the GW model is, but I think you can't use nothing from Lord of the Rings models in the warhammer models, unless i am way off.
Thanks for the replies guys.
I was looknig at the XV89 with heavier armour plates.
Just think it looks a cool model. It says that they come with alll regular GW weapon and sprue choices.
The XV81 and the XV84 come with the standard plastic XV8 sprues to make a standard Crisis suit. The XV81 then has the SMS resin mount and is also equipped with a set of resin weapons and special weapon arms. The XV84 has the Markerlight and the same resin weapon arms and weaponry.
The XV89 is the only one I don't possess, but it too will have the same set-up as the others: a complete plastic kit and then the resin parts to create the upgraded model, including weapon arms and weaponry. I don't know if it contains a resin torso.
As can be seen in the pictures on Forgeworld's website, these resin arms are NOT the same as the standard plastic ones. The resin guns plug into them from the front, so the standard plastic weapons are not compatible without a bit of conversion.
"Tau Commandment #226: Participants who use Velocity Trackers in the Tau Clay Pigeon Tournament will be disqualified"
They are FRIGGIN expensive tho!
I have an xv84 model with magnitized hardpoints. So twinlinked weapons are an option even though forgeworld only supplys a single weapon. You just have to get a little creative cutting up the twinlinked weapon. Here he is with twin MP and a plasma. WIP.
Anyway, most people are going to let you play them in frindly play. Tourneys are up to the organizers attitude. I let people play them always. Heck they paid good money for them. Im not going to be the guy that say "NO! . I can't afford them, so you can't play them! "

Looks like a good model Camarodragon. Are the lighter grey areas the resin?
