Given the outdatedness of a lot of models and the price of metal figs.
I was wondering how you guys maximized purchases and sought alternatives to represent some units, H.Q.'s etc.
I assume Eldar are quite useful for that?
How do you guys try to limit expenditures (or overcome esthetic annoyances with as little problem as possible) when it comes to the Dark Eldar?
Actually warriors are pretty easy to find for cheap. I got tons of them from my friends who had them in their basements back when they were free (still on the sprues!)
All my Syrabites are converted Warriors (still plastic). My Archon is converted from an Eldar Bonesinger, which is still a metal model, but I got it as a present. I converted all of my Ravagers from Eldar Falcon grav tanks (there are some really good, cheap Apocalypse sets).
My wyches are actually half Dire Avenger- half Dark Eldar warrior. I decided to go with the heavily armored gladiator rather than the mostly-nude one. Most of the weapons came from my friend's Chaos Beastmen box. Basically, you'd be surprised how many little bits you probably have amassed.
Dark Eldar with low budgets is not a good idea in my opinion, as raiders are used so much and you need to buy 1 raider for every 10 warriors.
Got one word for you - EBay.
My entire army of over 5000 points bar the Dracon came from the auction site from Heaven and the great majority is second hand.
There was no other way I could have afforded 60+ Wyches otherwise!
In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.
Dark eldar can't be made to look good with a low budget, if you have previous models you can convert yes but dark eldar are an exspensive army to buy.
(8 raiders x #35) + (3 ravagers x $45) = /cry
Guess for now i'll stick just to the Black Legion.
As was mentioned before: ebay
With patience You can get a good army for cheap. If You dont mind the painted staff.
And buy full armies or collections, never single squads

And also different prices in US and Uk site for the same staff.
If you're really looking for a cheap alternative, i found this guy's website which has some pretty innovative thoughts. I did the grotesque one and it looks great.
