Welcome to Librarium Online!
Recently my friend, and my brother stopped playing 40k (lets say the economy is not in their favor) so they gave me their eldar, FREE, now what i'm asking is if i can make a decent force from the mini's i have
From my brother i got:
1 Eldrad Uthran (or w/e his name is)
1 shining spear exarch (converted to be either a warlock or a farseer on jetbike)
4 warp spiders and an exarch
6 striking scorpions and an exarch
10 guardians w/ a weapon platform (not built so any weapon possible)
1 Heavy weapon platform (also not built)
6 swooping hawks and an exarch
1 viper (currently w/o a weapon)
from my buddy:
1 fuegan (the fire dragon pheonix lord)
1 Fire Prism
so i guess what i'm asking is would it be entirely possible to make a nice, working, sizable force from these models (i have army builder just not in my studio so i can't test lists)
You certainly do. Your only trouble is in fifth edition troops are really important. And you only have three troops you could legally field(pathfinders, the one unit of guardians that has a weapon platform, and the bikes) So you could make what you have work in small games. But in, say, a 2000 point game you're spread thin when it comes ot taking objectives.
Also you can't just field guardians anymore they're required to take a weapon platform. So you couldn't play the 20 on their own guardians. Personally I'd advise a little conversion job to turn them into Dire Avengers. This doesn't have ot be hard. The only difference between the old DA models and guardians is that they had different heads (i.e. when you bought dire avengers you got a box of guardians with a baggie of extra heads). And the only real difference in the heads is having a mohawk thing. That's pretty easy to add. And so long as you put something on so it's obvious which are which I dont' think anyone will give you trouble. Exarcs are a little trickier but no so bad if you're a good converter.
Those are troops, so that'll help your troop issue.
On the note of conversion, you might want to consider converting the falcons to wave serpents (maybe even the fire prisms). The wave serpent box is pretty new. So it used to be everyone had to convert falcons or prisms to get a serpent, so their are conversion guides online and stuff.
The reason for that is serpents could haul around DA, which is usually the preffired way to use them. And you have too many heavy support models to field them all.
I.e. you've got
1 fire prism
and, I presume, a support weapon battery. Or is the extra battery the smaller kind used by guardians?

no it is indeed a heavey weapon battery, like D-cannon platform heavy
i was thinking of converting them to dire avengers, the only thing is that the the 10 i got from my brother are all OLD OOP guardians (ie they are 2 pieces, a body and a gun) so i was figuring on using them with a warlock and a Weapon platform with a bright lance and the other 20 into dire avengers
Well if the 20 guardians you got from your friend are the new type, you could always embark on the tedious(very tedious if they're already made) task of converting them into storm guardians. Thats what i did with 20 of my guardians, and the best part is they all look different and unique.

"I'm glad that worked. Those would have been horrible last words."
