Welcome to Librarium Online!
I had a question for everyone, let me know if this has been brought up before and I try to find the old thread.
First or Second?
When would you choose to go first or second? What would make you make the dission? I trying to get a good handle on things before the weekend.
The description on the Nightmare allows you to force the other guy to re-roll his roll to pick board side. Now looks like under the new rules this would apply to the roll for who goes first sense it is all one roll now. I did notice that the Adepitcon FAQ says this no longer has any effect, but that is not an offical FAQ and I have asked the very large group we have here about the Adepticon FAQ and they said it is not used as a normal rule, only when the specific tourament rules says it is. So will this work for getting that second chance to go first? Also, is it really worth the points/Wound?
Everyone in my area usually plays Tourny lists at all times. More like practice for tournaments all the time. Its a very large group of players that are more tournament minded than one off games and "just playing around" although we have those from time to time as well.
It really depends on your playing style and the mission. One of our major strengths is our mobility. If you choose to go second that means you will have the final turn and can turbo boost all of your raider squads to claim/contest objectives. For more of an annihilation mission you will want to go first, since everything we seem to have is made of paper and dies pretty quickly.
At the last tourny I went to I played with a shooty type DE army. I had 3 ravagers, 8 raiders, and 5 jetbikes. Going 2nd really helped me. I pretty much stayed as far away as I could while unloading DL's and Dissies until the last turn. Then I boosted towards all the objectives.
Going second is rough. Raiders are too big to get cover saves from terrain most of the time and your opponent might just pick them all off. If you go first you can get saves from flat out movement. Going second has the option of putting everything in reserves which can be a valid tactic but your stuff will come on piecemeal and can get slaughtered by gunlines.
Depends on your enemy and the deployment. In dawn of war, always go 2nd (and don't start with anything on the field unless you have some sniper squads or equivalent). I would also go 2nd against non-tzeentch demons, orks without lootas, 'steeler shock, and just about any army without long range fire power. Otherwise go first, strike fast, and strike hard!
And its almost never a good idea to put alot (or any) of your units in reserve.
Oh and a recent FAQ (maybe the INAT) killed the nightmare doll.
Against armies the do not show up on the board turn 1, I like to go second, I don't want to waste a turn and I'd like them to get on the board.
Help the kin TAKE your soul, I mean, take your soul...
I play Vassal. I'm in V40K Open Ladder.
When can you choose to put things in reserve? Is it before or after the roll for turn?
During deployment, so after the turn/side roll but before the stealing initiative roll.
