Our vehicles have got a terrible reputation for being easy to take down, so imagine my surprise when, at an apocalypse tournament this weekend, during the course of the three rounds we played not a single of my 5 vehicles was destroyed. In fact, only one was immobilised and two had weapons destroyed.
Admittedly, one of these vehicles was Vect, who is a little harder than most to take out, but nevertheless I still had 3 raiders and a ravager on the board.
Can I also point out how well our army is suited to apocalypse missions. 12" away form the start (guaranteed first turn assault) with a flank marching contingent spells brutality to most opponents. Add in some wyches with haywires to go superheavy hunting and a nice fat nit of incubi and there aint much gonna stand in the way of THAT!
Plus the sheer number of lances and disintegrators we can field. So much fun!
It goes both ways. The sheer amount of Ordinance blasts and bolter fire means that DE troops and even vehicles are dead if they don't get 1st turn. What it boils down to is who wins initiative in an apocalypse game.
Enlighten me, how does the shadow beam thing fair in the Appoc battle?
Help the kin TAKE your soul, I mean, take your soul...
I play Vassal. I'm in V40K Open Ladder.
Didn't use the shadow beam, to be honest I didn't need to as only 1 of our opponents had a SHV and that got nullified by wyches with haywires flank marching. Flank march was made for DE, in one game my opponent's deployment zone was tiny, he got pinned into a corner and I flank marched all over him!Just packing in lots of troops with blasters and DLs seemed to work, and lost of disintegrators on the vehicles.
Also, don't forget the cover save!
Glad to hear that you did well in an apocalypse game. I'm going to be doing one next saturday, and I was really concerned if I just get blasted to hell by all the ordinance on the first turn.
Yeah, with the whole 12'' away set up and the ability to flank march you can get in and amongst the enemy army with little trouble. Plus the amount of lance weapons you will be able to field and you'll be laughing all the way home. I played my final the other day, against a terminator heavy army with 3 land raiders and shrike- fleeting assault terminators are not fun. I just about managed to tie them up long enough to seize 2 of the three objectives, though I did finally see one of my vehicles pop. The big V would you believe! Anyway, after a lot of fun i've finally caught the apocalypse bug, I really enjoyed those games, and will have to do it again sometime.
