Welcome to Librarium Online!
I put a discontinued (metal) Necron army on eBay and I had a guy email me asking if he could use them with his army (new version plastic minis)
I figured since they are the same units......why not? Other than the difference in appearance (which may seem somewhat silly) is there any reason why one could not use them with a newer set?
I can't think of any reason why he couldn't use them. It sounds reasonable to me.

as long as you use the same stats for them, you can can
no one will say no if it is explained what rules the older models follow
I think you'd have to use them by the current rules.... and convert them at least slightly so they look like they have the same weapons as the up-to-date ones.
Thanks for the fast replies guys.
Sure, it'll look crappy as hell, but hey, he's a good player who follows the rules, by all means do it!!!
