Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ive grown tired of blowing the crap out of people with my regular Tau forces, and have, despite most peoples advice, decided to start a small (1000 pt or so) Farsight army to mainly be used on small tables, or in city fights. The question I have:
Has anyone used the ork fighter upgrade on a large force before? If so,how was the outcome? Would it be worth it on a Fire warrior? A stealth suit? A Shas'O?
The plus to I and WS may not help too much, but I think that added to a Shas'O, his body guard, and any other Shas'vre, those units might stand a chance agianst most basic units (any thing not CC specialized). A Shas'O with Ork fighter has the same stats, minus the Dawnblade, as O'shovah.
Before the flames start, im not trying to make a close combat Tau army. I just want to be able to use a specialized force to use close range firesupport, without being too horrible at CC. Although firing, and then retreating is a great tactic, I've been wanting to try out the Ork-fighter since noone ever seems to.
Any constructive suggestions would be welcome. I ask that any "OMG , TAU SUX0rz AT CC" remarks be left out.
That sounds like an alright idea and your firewarriors wouldnt get so dominated in CC but the point cost for the entire army is high when racked together so i think u should only give it to your commander and 1 or 2 stealth suits and patrol around helping some units in CC when they r in trouble
Ghengis Khan and the Chinese emperor
Ghengis: bow to me or ill kill you
emperor: as the peaceful lily offers shade to the weary silk worm i would welcome death
emperor: no matter how the wind rages the mountain cannot bow to it
Ghengis: what the hell?
emperor: as the sun finds rest after a weary day* saying interrupted by emperors head getting sliced of.
I guess with such a army, you will be taking alot of pluse rifles to pin thier lesser units so that if you want you can get into combat with your crisis suit... and on the line of crisis suits, are you makeing them close combat suits (adding shields, flamers, burst cannons....ect)
Such a army whould be intressting to use do you have a army list made????

I dont have a list yet, just ideas. I am planning on adding a few flamers, just for fun. I think that the plasma rifle will come in very handy in short range, 2 str.6 ap shots will help soften up even the mightiest of targets.
Pulse carbines is something im debating, as i feel that the pulse rifle is just an all around better weapon, especailly with the new rules.
Whenever I pull out farsight (beyond him never working out for me) I also only upgrade my second Shas'O and select Shas'vres You can upgrade a solo crisis suit to a shas'vre, and get decent stats. However, the main problem of this setup is the point cost, a standard crisis suit is going to be very expensive, especially when kitted out to ork fight. However, upgrading your main troops is definately not worth it, too expensive.
Also, a note, you mentioned having the ability to use the plasma rifle with two shots in close, remember you can not rapid fire and assault per the new rules. Now I'm going to bet the Suit's intertial stabilizers negate this rule, but since its not specifically mentioned, you might get in an argument over that.
I"ve only fielded Farsight and used the orkfighter upgrade once, but I actually liked it. The battle was 1000 pts of Tau Farsight enclave, versus 1000 pts of Tryanids with Old one Eye. I upgraded everything in my army with the orkfighter upgrade, which really cut back on what I could feild, I got to feild a Crisis Team , a Hammerhead, a stealth team and two groups of Firewarriors, and Farsight of course. When the dust settled, all that remained were two sealth guys and 7 firewarriors. no nids survived.
On another note, I noticed recently that alot of GW tournmens and accepting Farsight enclave as a legal entry to tournments even though Special charaters are not allowed. I saw this on the list of armys avalible to play as at the Grand tournment brosure about a week ago. It's only a rumor but it could be that Farsight might get it's own codex. Much like how the Dark Eldar were once only a small entry in the back of the Eldar codex way back when. Like I said though it's only a rumor.
I thin there only useful on Bodguards and Shas'o.
