So recently decided that after a long absence from 40k (best measured in editions), jumped into doing orks (the models in all systems of the game looked great). Taking up the ork army, and knowing I've been out so long that being comepetitive isn't going to be an option for me, I decided to go withthe following theme.
My plan is to represent every clan in my army with one tough model at least, and if possible a unit to put it in. Then I shall play them, keeping score, so I can say for certain which ork clan has the right idea how to kill everything in the galaxy.
The first problam I found with this plan however is what choices to use for each clan. Some are pretty simple, like using snikrot for blood axes with some kommandos, or zagstrukk for sotrmboyz for goffs. Some of the others are proving to be a bit difficult while still keeping every clan in there. So, I turn to ye orks of experience to hear your thoughts on having something distinctive to each clan, while keeping them all in there.
Zagstuk is a waste of points. Don't use him.
Goffs - Mega Armored Warboss with MANZ in a trukk
Snakebites - Old Zogwort in a counts-as shoota boy unit with orc archers
Evil Suns - Wazdakka, or a biker boss.
Bad Moons - Flash gitz with Kaptain Badrukk, of course!
Deff Skulls - Big Mek with Shokk Attack Gun in a squad of lootas
You're not gonna have enough HQ slots to play, though. Maybe for apocalypse?
Hey Vampfan, welcome to the Waaagh!! You've got a cool idea, but I see two problems. The first one is not that big of an issue, but to get a powerful "model" from every clan that has an associated unit that could turn out to be a lot of points just in HQ, special characters, or orkified vehicle options. But with careful planning this can probably be overcome.
The second problem is that every Ork clan only thinks it's 'da best! What their greenskin bosses don't realize is that every other klan provides critical element to making a crafty and powerful ork mob that's ready for combat. In your case you plan on having a little bit of each, which will work to your advantage to having a balanced force, but since each clan has specific roles you might find it hard to "score" each clan on affectivness since the associated units are best used in specific ways...so, on with it though:
Goffs Clan - You have this under controll, Zagstruck with Storm Boyz
Evil Sunz - All about speed so the special character of choice is Wazdakka Gutsmek with some bikers/Nob Bikers OR a Warboss on bike with some bikers/nob bikers
Bad Moons - Richest Orks. The epitome of Bad Moons is Kaptain Badrukk with Flash Gitz. But for competitive reasons I can't recommend them. If you want competitive Bad Moons then go with a unit of 4 Mega Armored Nobz with a Wargoss with Mega Armor.
Blood Axes - You have the best pick here too with Snikrot and Kommando's. Just make sure to give him plenty of Kommandos and 2 burnas!
DeathSkulls - All about looting so a great choice would be some looted wagons with boomguns and definitely a unit of 9-15 Lootas! Maybe a battlewagon as well. I'm not really sure if there is a special character that is the epitome of DeathSkulls though...
Snakebites - This is a hard one, but I believe that a Runtherder (or 2) with a good size unit of Gretchin is the best representation. As far as I know there is no special character's for Snakebits, although it would have been humorous and cool if they had made a grot special character!
So, as you can see each clan has a completely different unit type to represent them. So if you were to draw from each one (as most players do) you'd actually have a decently balanced army. The one thing that I find to be missing from the clanz is the cultural element of the "mekboy mentality". Like the Killer Kanz, and Kustom Force Fields. Maybe this does fit into one of the clanz, but I'm not aware of which one.
Anyways, I hope that rambling helped,

Nice susynced answer! I agree that Zagstruk is probably not the best use of points just like Kaptain Badrukk/Flash Gitz(the worst use of points). It's certainly true that the list you've given will not work with HQ choices but it's possible to at least take a good unit that will represent each clan.
Yeah, I have little intention of being particulerly competitive, too many experienced players around for the to really work, at least after such a long break. It's mostly an army just for fun, so I'm going for things fitting the theme more than tactical sense.
As for keeping score on who's doing the best, I plan to do it in a porper orky fashion i.e. of anything an ork would feel free to brag about, from killing something to getting all the attention and such.
the biggest problem, as you've noticede, is finding room for all of them within' the HQ restraints. I'm trying to avoid having to go into apocalypse rules on these guys (for now, more on that later). So far, the best I could think of was this.
Definatly in the army.
Goffs- Zagstruk n' sortmboyz. (not sure why zag is so bad)
Blood Axes- Kommandos with Snik (I could tell just by reading flamers would be awesome.
Bad Moons or Deathskulls- Badrukk and a SMALL flash gitz unit ( I can see a tough flash gitz mob fiiting either of these clans)
Likely in the army
Snakebites- Old Zogwort w/ shoota unit (I can't think of anyting else that fits theme and is snakebites. plus I know a few players who would suffer heavily from having thier army squigulated)
Evil sunz- Ork warboss with nob bike mob (I don't like wazdakke, and I have heard much love for this unit)
What needs figurin' out
Bad Moon or Deathskull unit
So that's basically whee I am stuck right now, figurin' that final unit that fits either Bad moons or Deathskulls from basic troops while still being tough.
I figure a bad moon could easily get enough teeth together to get himself put in a nice kustom dread, while a deathskull could easily slavage enough parts for a good vehicle. Of course as mentioned earlier, both of these could be filled by a hq choice (MABoss and big mek respectively), but then I would need to find something for those in there (Evil suns maybe but I draw a blank on snakebites)
So, does anybody have any ideas on how to make it fit, or of met mentioned so far would be the best combination.
Goffs- Slugga boyz or nobz. Storm boyz fits but tons of ard, serious boyz is the core of a goff force, with lotsa nobz.
Evil Suns- warbikes
SnakeBites- squiggoth, grots/runtherd, converted boarboyz with guns
Death Skulls- Looted wagons, lootas
Blood Axes- commandos
Bad Moons- flash gitz
I like Sean's idea about Boar Boyz, you could use Warbiker rules for them.
Let's organize what you have so far on the force organization chart..
Warboss on Warbike (Evil Sunz)*
Big Mek with Kustom Force Fiels (Death Skullz)
Loota Boyz (Death Skullz)*
Kommandos + Snikrot (Blood Axes)*
Nob Bikers (Evil Sunz)*
Grots (Snake Bites)
Trukk Boyz x2 (Evil Sunz)*
Deff Dread (Death Skullz)
Storm Boyz + Zagstruk (Goffs)
Warboars (Snake Bites)*
Rokkit Buggies (???)
Flash Gitz + Badrukk (Bad Moonz)*
Looted Wagon + Boomgun (Death Skullz) OR Battle Wagon (Bad Moonz)
Big Gunz + Lobbas (Snake Bites)*
The trick is to keep the list below 2,000 points! I've marked the units with an asteric that I really think make this army (either for effectiveness or for fluff)
I've recently become a fan of this thing called Dubstep. And you should too.

For the record, Zagstruk is bad because the stormboyz are safer going up the field than trying to deepstrike and having a good chance of scattering out of assault range or into impassable terrain. Remember, stormboyz can't Waaagh, so you have to land within 6'' of the enemy. You're better off moving them on at the start of the second turn.
Also, the combination of losing his powerklaw after the first turn and having a bosspole that always works means that if the stormboyz get into combat with something they can't kill in the first turn, they're stuck in a losing combat indefinitely, and without a powerklaw.
So he endangers your unit's chances of even hitting the board, can't leave a losing combat and only has a powerklaw on the turns you charge. All for twice the cost of a reliable klaw nob.
Yep, Zagstrukk sucks.
As for your army, here are some ideas
Goff = Boss and Nobs, Stormboyz, lots of basic boyz, Ghazgkhull
Evil Sunz = Trukk Boyz, Warbikes, Deff Koptas, Buggies, Wazdakka
Deffskulls = Lootas, looted vehicles, Meks
Blood Axes = Kommandoz, looted tanks painted up in camoflauge, Snikrot
Snakebites = Grots, Boyz, Zogwort
Bad Moons = Flash Gitz, Battlewagon with all the trimmings, Kaptin Badrukk

I don't see why everyone keeps saying the zagstuk is a goff. He's a blood axe, dammit! He does lots of drill and plans, very 'umie things to do, very blood axe things to do. plus he's useless is the game anyway.

No, he is slearly a goff. He has the goff colors and style on him, stormboyz are most common in goff armies, and wearing a giant rokkit on your back is pretty much the opposite of camoflage
