Slugga and Choppa
brought some boyz recently and been thinking about whether or not to give them shootas or sluggas and choppas.
Help me out here
Its very dependent on style of play. As Morden said, Shootas are the betetr of the two when foot slogging, while sluggas are better for Speed Freaks. So it comes down to the type of list you want to run.
Overall, point for point, shoota boyz are not only better than sluggas, but they're quite possibly the best troop choice in all of 40k. The only other troops that come close are Dark Eldar Warriors (their only unit that works really well) and Tau Firewarriors. For 6 points you get 2 shots at BS 2 (which is statistically slightly better than 1 shot with BS 4), strength 4 shooting, strength 4 when assaulting, 3 attacks on the charge (better than normal marines), and they can shoot and assault on the same turn. In short, they're ridiculously effective for their cost.
As the others have already said, this doesn't mean that shoota boyz are appropriate for every situation. Slugga boyz and Meganobz are better in mechanized armies, although I do like units of 20 shootas in battlewagons too.
I'd keep 12 slugga boyz for each trukk you have. If you're not using trukks, then go with shootas.

Another thing to take into consideration is the cost.
You can get Slugga boyz Dirt Cheap from the AOBR set (usually $5-$8 average on Ebay average..potentially even less if you find a website that offers cheap Sprues).
The Ork BOYZ set on the other hand costs about $15 average on Ebay, and I imagine you paid a little more for yours. So I would definitely make Shootas with them to get the most out of your money.
I'm going to put on my trolling cap and say "SLUGGA BOYZ BRING DA BEST FIGHT!" and then slowly disappear off into the sunset.
Even in trukks i still use shoota boyz. my trukks are distraction units, so even if they get blown up early you can still throw up to 20 shoota and 3 big shoota shots at something. a slugga mob that loses its well is just so many free points
for really big games i have 2 30 strong mobs of each. shootas always krump more
