Me and a BUNCH friends are going to start warhammer 40k and one of my friends is here and wants to know more about necrons.
Hes looked at them and cant realy tell. Do necrons upgrade weapons because on all the warriors and sutff he has seen the only troops you can add equipment to is HQ's.
Is that true? Cause he likes necrons but not if there dull.

necrons are a dull army, i have to admit. the only wargear you can add is a disruption field, which helps you take out tanks in close combat (a waste for the most part). beyond that, yes, only the lord can get wargear and a weapon upgrade.
necrons are pretty dull, but very powerful when used correctly.
Necron may be stiff and rigid but are strill fun to use. Their WBB gives them a second chance to avoid being killed. Even the most basic troop has a small chance of popping a land raider! They have C'tan which are best described as Uber generals...
The major setbacks are their lack of choice, and high point cost.
Necron will stand for eternity.Their race has survived aeons by trading their very souls for metal bodies. Now, they will live on through eternity and will vanquish all life from our universe. For they are Necron. Flesh is weak. The machine will rise!
that really isnt a bad thing though. if you really want a lot of different types of units, yes they are an army to avoid, but beyond that, big deal.
I'll tell you this much about necrons: If you are all new to playing, then the guy who is playing necrons will have the least to learn about the game and will probably win a great majority of his first few games against you.
Their army is so incredibly forgiving to bad tactical maneuvers that players who are very weak in the tactics department can still have a lot of success with necrons.
The downside to all of this is that they are very very boring to play. At least for me. I'm used to the incredible amount of variation that my Imperial Guard army offers and when I first started playing Necrons I was a bit disappointed in their army list.
Now I only play them to counter people's "unbeatable" armies. When someone comes in the store and they're like: "I've never been beaten with this army", then people refer them to my necron force. Poof. Winning streak over.
THE C"TAN WILL FEAST ON YOUR ESSENCE TRAITOR!!!!!:lol::lol:
sorry about that Send, it just seems that for a necron player (are you one?) you dont have many nice things to say about the necrons....
Anyways it is true that many ppl find the necron army dull in comparison to other armies that have a buttload of troops. Some ppl just dont like it that a necron player can throw almost any list together in 5 to 10 minutes.
I, however really enjoy them, I have played Eldar ('nilla and Ulthwe' and Tau, and I had success with both of them, but I still probably enjoy my 'crons the most (even though i actually win more with my ulthwe), probably because of all the awesome fluff they have.
"I am the architect of fate!"
ya necrons do have cool fluff, plus there a snap to painy usualy
oh btw i was wondering if disruption fields are at all worth the points?
disruption fields arent really worth the points. if you plan on using a group of scarabs or wraiths or flayed ones, or whatever to take out tanks (although there really isnt a reason for this), then ya, you're going to need disruption fields. on any model with a gun or warscythe though, terrible idea. *hides*Originally posted by TheBigJake@Aug 6 2004, 09:43

nah, i am a necron player, although i probably should have been an imperial guard player. i do like necrons, just not the typical necron force.
ya i think i am gonna put them on my scarabs just in case somethin goes wrong or something haha
