Hi all =)
Im having a constant battle in my mind between Striking Scorps, Howling Banshees and Harlies. From the fact HB have power weaps, they can take out MEQ's, Striking Scorps for Horde but Harlies, I really do not understand them.
Ive read and re-read thier entry but I still dont understand what is so amazing about them. Yes they have high initive, and a lot of basic attacks.... but what else? What am I missing. Rending? Im not sure I completely understand that.
But SS get same amount of attacks @ the same toughness but with a better save? And an exarch that can have a powerfist....
If someone could guide me and explain what I am missing with Harlies I would be very grateful!! I am still an eldar noob, and I know there is so much potential in an eldar army if they are played correctly!!
They have hit&run, powerful Shadowseer upgrade, and yes, Rending is awesome. It's awesome awesomeness is easily seen when you Doom their target. Even more rending wounds.
Scorps instead have big problems with Feel no Pain and do not have Fleet of Foot. This second seems fatal.
Save is not needed, you shouldn't ever speak of it, unless you are being charged by 20 Hormagaunts or some different nonsense unit you would shoot. Eldar Infantry such as even more than Scorps - Banshees and Harlequin is great when it comes to charge and wipe Doomed enemy with no survivors left.
If you still don't see it - count. So many high strengh attacks pierce through most armour. But there are a few wounds without save as well.
If you play a bit with Mathhammer, you will see that they are most universal - best killers against hordes, almost best against MCs and almost best against MEQ. They are most uniersal, but have problems with high Armour Walkers, just as every eldar infantry.
They are most tourney, but are not comfortable to use and extremely vulnerable, even with Fortuneseer. As all eldar infantry, but those guys can really be owned and are most expensive, so watch out.
Furious Charge, Hit and Run, Rending, Flip Belts, but most of all Shadowseers. In fact, have you even noticed the additional rules for Shadowseers and Death Jesters on the page below the Harlequin entry (I have a sneaking suspicion you haven't)? The fact that Harlequins cannot be hit by shots further away than 24" is absolutely amazing. They get a lot of attacks and they can also have the upgrades of Troupe Master and Death Jester for squad leaders and heavy weapons.
And apart from all that, the fluff for them is brilliant
