has anyone had any swooping hawk experience to speak of?
i envisoned today 3 squads of hawks popping in and out of play, dropping grenades and wreaking havoc all over the table.
but thats on paper, not in practice.
has anyone used the hawks to any degree of success?
the haywire grenades are great, but my eldar army usually have a fair amount of anti tank firepower.
If the radiance of a thousand suns
Were to burst at once into the sky,
That would be like the splendor of the Mighty One...
I am become Death,
The shatterer of Worlds.
Swooping Hawks are absolutely brilliant, mainly because of their grenade-dropping ability
Oh, and the Exarch can have a Sunrifle
But yeah, they aren't much use against MEQs because they don't really have any high-strength armour-busting attacks, so I would only use them in games against things like 'Nids or IG.
Swooping hawks are amazing even against meq all you have to do is doom the unit they are going to shoot at and also drop their pie plate on the same unit unless it is really badly needed elsewhere. Also they can kill any tank no problem with their speed and haywire grenades.
I dont have them in my list yet because i have a small eldar army and im still getting stuff.
But the one time i did use them like this with doom i had six of them including an exarch take down 5 demon hunters with with their captain that had a 2+ save.(the power weapon person that goes in the squads not their hq)

for some reason they work well for me. i play a small squad of 5 with an exarch w/ skyleap. no fancy weaponry that takes away from their role. anyway their was one battle that they did extremely good. i was facing my freind at my local shop. he played tau very effectively and it was a tough game. in turn 4 my hawks come in and drop their bomp on 2 fire warrior squads gaurding one of 4 objectives and one squad gets pinned and the other falls back off the table. he makes the mistake of not shooting at them and the next turn i destroy his hammerhead with haywire grenades. ok here is when it gets crazy on the end of turn 5 he is in control of 3 objectives and i am in con. of 1, so he still ignores my swoops. and goes for the last objective with a squad of fire warriors( he has 6 squads of 12) my swooping hawks get into combat with one of his F.W squads and runs it off the table. the game goes to turn 7 and he thinks the swoops luck has run out so he does not shoot them and instead goes for my troops on my only held objective with his stealthsuits. by pure chance i make it into combat 21 inches away and contest the last objective making it a 1 to 1 game.
any way that is the best my swooping hawks ever did and even though they dont always do so great they are fun to play and they do have their moments.
