Welcome to Librarium Online!
Starting a new Eldar army. What shall I get, what colours shall I do. Thinking about glossy black, or Sam hann type things, playing with Beil tan rules. Any thoughts?
Don't have time for a "real" post, but I have a question. When you say biel-tan rules, do you mean the old rules for specific craftworlds (which no longer exist in 5th ed.) or just that you will focus on aspect warriors in your army?
Like Eldar Newb said, there are no craftworld specific rules anymore. All units are available to everyone, and it's just the fluff that dictates what you use, if you want it to.
As for the other questions, I can't really tell you as it's personal preference really.
If you do want to go with an aspect heavy list, then I would suggest Dire Avengers as troops and then work from there.

like eldarnewb said (who ive noticed is far more educated than 'newb' would indicate) the old craftworld rules dont exist anymore. thank god because then i would be stuck with guardians for my ulthwe.
As for color schemes, i dont like the eldar base schemes. I made my own. I dont like bright fluffy happy colors, i prefer dark schemes and therefor i made one as such.
Personally I like darker schemes as well. I have a recent thread about this as well you might want to have a flick through. - http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...r-schemes.html
also, EldarNewb are certainy not n00b. He keeps popping up being useful everywhere in here
As for what to get, A good starting point would probably be the battleforce if you can scrounge the cash from somewhere, Otherwise, a box of Guardians or Dire Avengers and a Farseer is probably the best way to start.
Color scheme is whatever you want really. Look in the 4th edition codex for the "traditional" color schemes, but Eldar are varied enough that anything will do. I myself am doing ivory as the base color with blue, purple and black to identify rank and function (such as pathfinder and war walkers are black for functional, and warlock are black to denote their "special function". I use Blue markings for standard vehicles and purple for high ranking/exarchs.

The great thing about Eldar is that they are varied enough, and there is enough room in the fluff, to pretty much do whatever you want with them. It can make it tough, because the choices are endless, but go with whatever you want... I mean seriously, someone came up with this:Ex Libris Mortis (which, while I would never do myself, I think is awesome).
I would say, if you can, a couple of the battleforce boxes are a great start. Wave Serpents are really handy for transporting Dire Avengers, Fire Dragons, Banshees, the list goes on. War walkers are a great addition to any force, and I for one, think that guardians can be useful, as a great cheap troop choice. I'd start off with a farseer to lead your army, and go from there.
One thing about the battleforce box is that it comes with 5 dire avengers. The problem with that is, you ll never use 5 dire avengers. If you get another box now you have 10 but 2 of them are exarchs. Also the only dire avenger box is a 10 man squad. So if you cant get single units from somewhere that might be a pain. However there are good ebay stores online that sell single units (thats how I got my 5 missing men)
Hmmmm... Newb eh? Well he knew something I did't so what does that make me?
Thank you very much for welcoming me with some sound advice. I'm very sorry, I should've spent longer on that first post. He comes a longer version...
Hi, my name is Tom but on here I'm John 117
I've been playing for oh.... 3 maybe 4 years now. I've had a few different army's and have 2 great mates Matt and Joe who I can go to for a game or some advice, or just swapping stories of the last time Matt kicked my ass! I've had 2 space marine armies and an Eldar and Khorne and Ork army. That sounds like allot but the khorne was free off an old friend and the space marines were also off a friend, but not as free! My heart truely lies with Eldar, they are by far my favorite. I don't know why, but something about them just clicks with me. Anyway, this isn't a love letter I need some help!!! Basically my last Eldar army was my first ever 40k army and I've come a long way since then. (thats not bragging I realy sucked!) I went generic, didn't we all at first? Biel tan, snot green with white and red gems... block red! I've also inherrited a few 'crons and tau so I'm gonna sell it all off... Derby, England if your interested , and start a fresh. I'm very exited, even at my ripe old age of 16! So basically I'm starting fresh and need to decide what Troops, HQ, and colour scheme to use. I've always bought whatever looked good in the past, but I'm sick of getting my ass kicked and have vowed to buy something that might contribute to me beating Matt!!! I never beat Matt! I've thought abit more about colour schemes and I've narrowed it down to 3...
- Matt black underlay with gloss black amour plates and yellow trimmings/gems/markinds etc.
- Sam Han type red with white/bone. Like that pic which I love btw! Fantastic mini.
- Something eles!
I'm realy open to sujetions on colour schemes/what to buy inc paints and brush's etc. This is my new start I'd love some help! Thank you very much
PS: I terms of painting skill with regards colour scheme tips, I can paint about as well as that pic, but not quite. So please no "have u heard of dry brushing?" I hope I don't sound rude, I'm realy greatfull for any help, I just don't want you to waste loads of time explaining how to paint I've been painting for 8 years now! Thanks

Oh and Budget wise...
I got about £30 but I'm selling allot of 40k ('crons, tau, space marines, chaos. If you interested pm me :p) at the moment so hope fully should have somewhere between £50-£150 depending how much sells. So enough to get 2 troops n HQ. I'm pretty settled on a farseer for HQ, but otherwise ensure. Oh and I buy off a site that does 25% off, so I got like 25% more to spend. And I've ordered from i before and it's all sucure and fine so no worries!
