Warboss Griznit Here!
due to lack of funding I have not been able to buy much for my Ork army yet and have been forced to just sit in planning mode. I have however bought a unit of 5 Deff Koptas.(Got it for less than 20$ on E-bay, too hard to pass up.)
I have a question for all youz Veteran Waaghs.
Out of all the specialty units.
Which of them actually work and are useful. I have heard many things and would like a concensus.

btw I know Boyz are good cause thats your troops and etc.
And I figure NOBZ are pretty solid and I didn't need to ask about them.
And if I forgot someone(dont have my codex with my right now) thoughts on them would work as well.
Also I didn't inculde Bikers...if you guys think they are *specialty* as well advise on them.

The best 'elite' Orks are the ones that either come with their own transports (Nobz, Biker Nobz or Meganobz), or don't need one (Lootas, Kommandos).
I've ranted on at length about the problems with Tankbustas, Burnas, and Flash Gitz, but at the heart of it, the main problem with the three above units is that they don't come with their own transport, and they won't do squat without one. These units are problematic enough without taking up an extra heavy slot in addition to their normal costs.
Lootas are absolutely fantastic, but are kind of expensive in real $, since you really need to field them in units of at least 9, or else they won't survive. To get around this, I used the burna bits in the loota/burna sets and some extra boyz to make more lootas. That way you get 8 Lootas + 1 mek out of every set of loota/burnas (as long as you have 4 spare boyz, but they're cheap on ebay).
Kommandos are good, but so are deffkoptas, and if you already have deffkoptas I'd stick with those. Kommandos are far better in the assault, and deffkoptas are far better at shooting, but both only really shine when you outflank with them. At this point I'd stick with the koptas. Either field them with big shootas or rokkits, and in either case, I don't like giving them any upgrades.
Meganobz are fantastic, but only when given a transport, and kept relatively cheap. One of my favorite Ork units is 3-4 Meganobz with 2-4 combi-scorchas (possibly with a character attached that has a bosspole) in either a trukk with a ram, or a battlewagon a big shoota, deff rolla and grot riggers. These guys will trash everything EXCEPT units loaded with more than one power weapon (Eldar elites, Bloodthirsters, etc). Just steer away from those enemies, and you'll trash literally anything else your opponent throws at you. Of course, these guys are expensive in real $, so you might want to start with a cheaper option (unless you can get a deal on ebay).
When starting out, you should get a very large number of boyz, especially if you plan to use them on foot. If you're using vehicles, I'd use at least 3-4 transports, otherwise they'll be too easy to pick off. In either case, a big mek w/KFF would work well. I'd definitely get one.

Grax pretty much covered it, here's ==My== 2 teef.
Kommandoz-Excellent unit, great for silencing an enemy gunline and putting the fear of Mork into just about anyone. Snikrot makes them amazing, losing the biggest downside of outflank (random board edge) and immediately threatening any enemy unit that stuck around on their board edge.
Burna Boyz-They can be fun, but really need a transport to be effective. They die like normal boyz, but put out a ridiculous number of hits at range and can do some damage in an assault, though they still suffer from I3.
Tank Bustas-Need a transport to keep them from doing anything stupid and dying horribly. I prefer combat tankbustas, with tankhammers to go after vehicles instead of rokkits at BS3.
Lootas-Best firepower in the Codex. Get 9+, stick them in cover, and proceed to blow away any vehicles with AV12 or lower and infantry.
Flash Gitz-Expensive Nobs with no combat upgrades and up to 2 shots each at BS2. Not a big fan here. Fun unit, but just not killy enough.
Mega Nobz-Hits like a freight train, all but immune to basic attacks, though they fall apart to powerfists and MCs. They really need a character with a bosspole leading them, and a fast ride.

To sum it up, you need Lootas. =P
flash gitz through and through lol. when u get them all upgraded you get a possible 20 shots at s6 and ap1(after an upgrade even rolls of 2 will be ap1). i know the bs is an issue but if u good at rolling 5+ then u set man.
