So I get my box sets through the post tomorrow for my cheapass 2k build, but I'm hitting a real brain issue, i was thinking originally of turning 10 nobz and termies from 2 AoBR sets.. but I'm worried they are too fragile
Which do you like better, option A or option B... or come up with option C, D or E
Big mek ride with my meganobz with KFF
9 meganobz
Battlewagon (red paint, riggers, armour)
Big Mek protects da boyz instead
9 nobz (3 pk, bosspole, waaagh banner, eavy armor, cybork)
Trukk (red paint, ram, armour, riggers)
Both quite expensive, obviously get less klaws with option B, but who needs 9??
Anyway would really appreciate the help, sorry for asking another annoying question, just don't wanna start converting them for no reason
There are advantages and disadvantages to both Nobs and Meganobs. Meganobs are much harder to kill with anything short of Power Weapons, which can make them more resilient to most anything, but their lack of Cybork Bodies makes them more vulnerable if they are caught without their cushy armor saves. Slow and Purposeful is dreadful if they get caught outside of their transport, so after the first charge, they might be caught out of combat if their transport gets blown away.
Nobs don't have that great armor saves, but the ability to take a Painboy (and thus Cybork Bodies) can make them terribly hard to kill, especialy in such numbers. Less Powerklaws really isn't much of a letdown, because when you start taking casualties (which, contrary to what some believe WILL happen) you would lose Klaws anyway. By taking them in a Trukk, they are more vulnerable, and they are still slow (though not quite as much) without it.
Both choices look good, but I would put both in a Battlewagon to make sure they hit enemy lines. Trukks are fine for Boyz, where you don't really need them to reach the lines as its only a small unit, but when you are delving all of those points into a unit (about a quarter of a 2000pt army), you want them to get there reliably every time. Also, try to give the Wagons either a Reinforced Ram or Deffrolla, which will protect them from terrain. Getting immobilized for terrain is a terrible fate for a Wagon and its Nobs, even with Grot Riggers (they help, but you still lose a whole Movement Phase).
good answer.. first two paragraphs was the problem i was mulling over already, but third one settles it for me.. 10 nobz in a bw sounds good to me didn't think itd be very cost effective to use a large transport for 10 models, but your right, must protect the investment and hella yeah forgot about the deff rolla
thanks, rep flowing your way
I thought the same thing too, as Battlewagons just drive the cost of the squad up even more... until a lucky Lascannon shot blew the Trukk they were in to bits on the first turn and the poor Nobs inside were outmaneuvered the rest of the game.
I am glad I could help!
yeah i think the option of the nobz in abattle wagon is abetter way to go. What doe sthe rest of your list look like? Because I have seen the hybrid build of 2 trukks a bw, and 40 shhoota boyz that looks pretty decent.
yeah i think i'm fairly convinced myself, bloody things still haven't arrived yet though, here'es what I'm putting around them:
Biker Warboss and 9 bikers w/ Nob
Bik Mek w/ KFF
20 shootas in a BW
also have another option of dropping a few grots and the dread in favour of more chop chop
I actually prefer a Trukk for transport over the BWs. Afterall a lucky lascannon shot can just as easily take out the BW 1st turn, which means you are in the same boat but have lost more points. Also, it is MUCH easier to hide a Trukk behind terrain (or your other models). I go with a Trukk of Nobz or MANz and another 2 Trukks of Boyz and maybe a BW, this gives me plenty of models to hide my Nobz trukk behind in the case that I can't hide behind terrain. Plus, I can then shoot out 18", 6" more than the BW so if my Trukk gets destroyed on the 2nd turn I am that much closer.
Either that or I leave them in reserve and when they come out they can shoot out 18".
