I just got my first tyranids. I have been working on a list for a long time now and I am mostly settled on my list.
I have changed that list just a lil bit mainly with the hive tyrant. (took warp field out and distributed points around)
Right now i have only 2 ranged units (not counting gaunts) warriors and the fex.
I love CC so i was considering maybe turning the fex or even the warriors to CC as well but given the points it seems kinda hard.
Is it feasible to change the fex to CC for tank hunting purposes with those points? If so how? What biomorphs should I use. Would a totally CC list be useful?
Its all a matter of preferance on if you wish to go For a More CC heavy army, But in my personal opinion having balance and taking some ranged firepower is a must, Tyranids work best by multiple threat tactics. Softening up the enemy with Sniperfex's and zoanies often compliments The CC units very well and you also have to look at a CC build carnifex may take 2-3 turns before it starts being a threat, a Ranged fex is a threat from turn 1
Tyranids adapt in war and its always tacticaly best to have a plan B, ie Ranged firepower
If you Go completely CC you may find You dont have a plan B, specialy if your opponent fields an Army that can go toe to toe in CC with your nids.
Hope this info helps
Army of the heavens, my army waits in hell
To battle on the earth, for all the souls who fell
As for warriors, again, I used them alot in 4th but very limited in 5th. In 4th, I went with winged CC warriors to keep up with my hormies. I found them to be fragile and over priced and eventually went with shooty warriors. With 5th, my hormies have been shelved and so have my winged warriors. I now use, when I use them, magnitized warriors with ST. I add deathspiters and a BS to groups of 3-5 depending on the list I'm running. Just as in 4th edition, the warriors are fragile and need to be protected. That's why I went all shooty.
As for biomorphs, I try to keep my bugs as cheap as possible. So, I don't run a lot of morphs.
Hope that helps...
