Welcome to Librarium Online!
Iíve always played games of 1500pts, but with the 2 main tournaments I go to now playing 1750pt games Iím forced to make an additional 250pts for all of my armies. However I donít want to make a model that will hardly be used like the Land Raider for my 1750pt Death Guard army that never makes its way into my 1500pt list.
So instead Iím looking to invest my extra 250pts in a unit for my ork army thatís both fun and interesting to play with, which will hopefully encourage me to use it in 1500pt games from time to time. Here is a quick list of what I have in my 1500pt listÖ
KFF Mek riding in Battlewagon.
Warboss leading 17 Ard Boyz mounted in Battlewagon.
3 Trukks full of Boyz.
5 Nob Bikers.
This is just to give you an idea of whatís in the army this is NOT a review of the army list just a discussion of what unit would be fun and interesting to play!
So letís have a look of the units I thought of so far (spare pts will be used for small upgrades)Ö
250 Ė 5 Deffkoptas with Big Bombs
I must admit Iíve always like the idea of doing a bombing run on an opponentís main line, not to mention this option has the benefit of a small number of models to convert and paint.
225 Ė 12 Lootaz in Looted Wagon with 2 Big Shootas.
Another interesting idea that I saw at the GT final last month which is to place a squad of Lootaz inside a looted wagon and use it as a bunker. It was a neat little trick however the threat of rolling a one and wasting a turn of shooting puts me off it.
240 Ė 12 Burnz with Trukk
A good effective unit, both for dealing with horde and heavy armoured armies. Their flexibility in their gameplay should make them a unit I will often use from time to time in my 1500pt army.
210 Ė 15 Kommandos with 2 Rokkit Launchers and Nob with Bosspole & Power Klaw
I feel it would be interesting to have a unit of kommandos come on from the side and give my opponent something to worry about. (Also I donít like using characters so please donít suggest Snikrot)So which do you think out of these 4 units would be the most interesting and fun for me to use in games of 1750pts and maybe even incorporate into my main 1500pt army from time to time?
Also feel free to suggest other units that you feel would be fun to use?
EDIT: Sorry!! I missed the part where you said you don't like using characters.. Um.. Woops!
Instead, how about:
+2x Meks w/ Big Shootas
+Battle Wagon w/ Deffrolla, Armour Plates, Big Shoota, Red Paint Job
They can assault.. if necessary.. But only dump them into a fight that you know you'll win. Otherwise, you'll want to save them to support your Boyz by Tank Shock + Burninating nearby counter-assault squads and shooty squads in rapid fire range waiting for your Boyz to win a fight. It's dedicating a huge chunk of your army to Tank Shocking.. but I've always made my points back (whether by actual kills, or the countless number of Boyz I've saved from certain death by supporting them)

I've recently become a fan of this thing called Dubstep. And you should too.
Datsik & Flux Pavillion - Crunch (Youtube)
Da Moo Kowz is da drinkinest Orks of dem all!
Of your selections the lootas hands down. They are the best transport popper in the game and with Orks you need to crack that shell to get at the gooey center.
If you love kittens you will love http://bloodofkittens.com
Plus there are also other benefits with using that unit, because I've used a baneblade for the base of my battlewagon conversion it looks fantastic and more important looks like it can carry that many orks. However I'm always worried that I run into a player that dislikes the size due to the KFF being used with it. I made it for creativity not for the extra range on the KFF. At least by having a smaller wagon available I'll be able to shut them up by changing it (providing the game is 1500pts.
Since your army looks more 'speedy' than 'horde', here are a few of my favorites:
3 meganobz with combi-scorchas in a trukk (great all purpose killers)
Warbikers (5 with a nob, powerklaw and bosspole is a lot of fun)
5 deffkoptas (either big shootas or rokkits, but skip the bombs and other upgrades)
9 Lootas (always useful, but don't bother with a bunker, as terrain is good enough)
Grots (not necessarily fun, but great for holding objectives, and even better with...)
Big mek w/SAG (attach the grots to this guy and you'll have a blast! ^_^)

"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
I would also like to add Weirdboyz or Old Zogwort.
